Dr. Leslie Bruce

Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics
California State University, Fullerton
Dear Dr. Bruce,
The main goal of this letter is to show you that I have completed the objectives of the
English 360 class by meeting the six student learning outcomes (SLO) required by the English
department. My major revision will be on the progress report for iFixit that was composed by my
group. I have also included a peer review and a section of my recommendation report as two
optional documents to exemplify my mastery of the learning outcomes. The first document is the
progress report because this was one of my earliest assignments that I have worked on. It
contains the most mistakes and basic errors which leaves the most room for improvement. My
additional work covers the remainder of the SLOs that were not covered by my main revision.
My portfolio is successful because of the way it meets each of the SLOs thanks to your
instruction and guidance. I feel confident and proud to present you with my portfolio because I
know that I have grown this semester and I eagerly await the final steps of my undergraduate
career.
The first student learning outcome is Rhetorical Focus which is satisfied throughout all of
my documents. The progress report satisfies the formal in and out-of-class objective while
speaking to the audience who is the iFixit staff. They overlook our project and the report is
written in a manner of persuasion. An additional audience, an English professer, is present
because of this cover letter. Doing so achieves the objective of speaking to a variety of different
audiences and acquires multiple purposes. The informal objective is executed by the informal
format of the peer review. My peer review for a fellow student in the class also follows an
informal tone that focuses on my suggestions for his work.
The second SLO focuses on Ethical Research. The results section of the recommendation
report is in APA format and satisfies this SLO because of the citations used in the online
research and course catalog review subsections in my report. The information is written in a way
to communicate the contents effectively while crediting the original author.
The third SLO focuses on Persuasive Arguments. I fulfill this objective with my progress
report. It is formatted with clear headings which is aimed to effectively persuade the iFixit staff
that we have been working diligently and are working to complete our goals appropriately in
conjunction with our designated deadlines. Under these headings contain an explanation of how
we have been conducting our time. Our persuasive arguments rests on the fact that we have not
been sitting idle and wasting our time but meeting together to complete this task as a group.
The fourth SLO emphasizes on Organization and Focus, and the fifth SLO is about
Academic Language and Design. All of my documents were required to be written in a sort of
fashion that I am expected to adhere to. I was able to follow the set guidelines within my
progress report to iFixit and was able to efficiently use subheadings to organize my main ideas
and project them to my audience. The peer review organizes my evaluation into a helpful format

to aid my peer in his progress, and the results section expresses my concern as to why an
incorporation of a genre into the curriculum is necessary while being careful not to discredit my
college by using different types of evidence throughout the paper.
The final sixth SLO is Collaboration. This SLO is also fulfilled by my three documents.
My progress report and results section has received great feedback from my peers and professor
alike. This allowed me to fix my errors. The peer review also helps me to assess and critique
others works. Being able to receive and give feedback allows me to become a better writer. By
being able to fix errors of my own and my peers through assessment I have completed this SLO.
After nearing the end of this course and gathering the materials that I have worked on this
semester, I have come to realize my strengths and weaknesses. I will give an example of how far
I have come since the beginning of the semester through my revisions, and I hope that I can
make you proud ending this semester as a better writer.
Sincerely,
Vincent Dao
