Assignment Details:

Select a group to work with.

Investigate your topic.

Write a research question about


your topic.

Write your hypothesis.

Design a research study.

Conduct the research.

Write the results and discussion


sections of the project.

Groups can be from 2-4 people.


You should agree on a topic of interest to all of you.
Look into the library for psychology journals; do an
internet search using keywords related to your topics,
and read the section of your textbook that deals with
this topic (if applicable).
o Pay attention to research methods that have
been used in the topic area, as well as previous
findings
This should be something you dont have the answer to
right now, but that you would actually be able to find
out in the next two months.
The hypothesis is your prediction about the answer to
your research question.
o What do you think you will find out and why do
you think this?
Use your references to support the need
for your research questions and your
hypothesis (prediction) about the
outcome.
Create a survey, naturalistic observation study, or
experiment that will test your hypothesis.
o Be realistic with what you can achieve on your
own in the next two months
Identify all specifics (i.e. variables, groups) that are
needed for the method you have chosen
o Dont forget about what controls you will use
(i.e. random assignment, blind studies)
Write the method section of your research study.
o I.e. how the study will run (step by step)
Be sure that your method follows ethical guidelines for
psychologists in Canada.
o If using a blind study please include information
on informed consent and debriefing
Collect the data.
Do a simple data analysis (average, high/low, etc).
Summarize the information in some fashion
o You may need to make tables and/or graphs
Photocopy ALL observer/data notes
o These are to be handed in with your assignment
Why do you think you found what you did?
Can you explain why your study did or did not support
your hypothesis?
What limitations to your study may have influenced
your results?

Format Specifics:
Each project must include the following:
o Be in HARD COPY
o Be in a folder in which the pages can be flipped through
Do NOT put pages into clear coverings
o A title page with each group members first and last name, and student number
o A table of contents and numbered pages, including the following separate sections:
1. Research question & hypothesis
2. Research study design
3. Research data and observations
4. Results and discussion
o References including:
Book: title, publisher, date, authors
Website: page address, date
o A hard copy of the project marking rubric (can be found on blackboard under course
assignments)
o Self and group member evaluations in personally sealed envelopes (can be found under
course assignments on blackboard)
