Extra Credit Reflection Forum
Out of all of the classes that I am taking this semester this has been, by far, my favorite class. I
have definitely surprised myself in reading the texts. They have given me a lot of great critical thinking
skills, which is what I aimed for in taking this class. In fact, although its not required for me to take, I am
going to take World Literature II anyway.
To be honest, I enjoyed all of the literature pieces that we were required to read. However, my
favorite was The Odyssey. I remember in high school this was among our mandatory readings and I was
not, at all, inspired to read the text. I think as you get older you learn to appreciate pieces of literature
like this. My favorite part of the book was that Odysseus did not sell-out and accept a perfect life of
immortality. He accepted hardships for what they were, because he knew that true happiness lie in
Ithaca with his wife and children. He was willing to fight for something he loved the most. I did read the
entire story of Gilgamesh and enjoyed it as well. There werent any particular parts that I enjoyed more
than others. I appreciated the entire body of work.
As for the assignments, there wasnt a single one of those that I did not enjoy. During the
summer semester I attempted to take World Literature I with a different professor. While I wont say
the professors name, I will say it was one of the most horrible experiences Id had as a student. I ended
up dropping the class within the first week of the short semester. There wasnt much direction given
within the class. I think that any time you are challenged to decipher a story it helps you; and it helps
when the professor gives you feedback and constructive criticism.
Ive thoroughly enjoyed this class. So, Ms. Rivera, are you going to be teaching World Literature
II?
