PART 1
In the article To Prevent Rape on College Campuses, Focus on the Rapists, Not the
Victims, Amanda Hess writes about how the rapist must be punished not the one who
was raped. Amanda Hess was a victim of rape in college, and this article explains how
even with a lot of preparation and prevention women are still getting raped due to men
utilizing alcohol to weaken the female's ability to make proper decisions and defend for
themselves. Wayne State University Psychologist, Antonia Abbey notes that one study of
college date rapists found that 62 percent Felt they had committed rape because of their alcohol
consumption. They misjudged how to woman felt and used force to test them. Most rapists
don't think that they are criminals, because alcohol is not a weapon. The purpose of this
article is to inform women that even if you do avoid sketchy situations and do as
everyone tells you, you are still at risk for being raped. Abbey writes, by increasing the risks
inherent in raping other people. If the costs of sexual assault are obvious, undesirable and immediate,
then intoxication-driven sexual assaults are less likely to occur because the potential perpetrator cannot
forget about the likely, undesirable consequences. This suggests that colleges need strong, consistent,
well-publicized policies that no one can ignore.

In the article, College Women: Stop Getting Drunk, Emily Yoffe writes an article
that contradicts Amanda's. Emily wrote this article to make women think twice about
binge drinking because of all the risk it causes. She explains how women try to match
men drink for drink which gets them a lot more drunk a lot quicker. Biologically, women
to not metabolize alcohol as fast as men. She also states how everyone always blames the

male, but people should be telling the women to stop drinking so much so that they can
defend themselves. Women go to parties and become unable to make their own decisions.
Sometimes it's like their asking for it. Antonia Abbey, professor of psychology at Wayne State
University, states Sometimes the woman is the only one drunk and runs into a particular type of
shrewdand sobersexual predator who lurks where women drink like a lion at a watering hole. For
these kinds of men, the rise of female binge drinking has made campuses a prey-rich environment.
Women are most often the victim, but that's because they render themselves defenseless
due to drinking. One way to reduce college rape incidents is to punish the perpetrator, but
you can also lecture the victim, because they put themselves in a bad position. Studies
show that the main rape drug that men use is alcohol not the date rape drug. Im not
saying a woman is responsible for being sexually victimized, says. Christopher Krebs, one of the
authors of that study and others on campus sexual assault. But when your judgment is compromised,
your risk is elevated of having sexual violence perpetrated against you.
PART 2
The two authors meet at Buffalo Wild Wings at 7 o'clock in the afternoon. The restaurant is
filled with families and friends on a Monday night to watch football. Once they walked in they both
experience the smell of burgers, fries, and the slight sting of those spicy wings. When you look around
you see a bunch of loud obnoxious drunk men with a beer and a plate of wings. The authors are both
talking in loud voices especially when something happens in the game. Amanda and Emily are smiling
and having a good time. The conversation starts with small talk between the authors until Amanda said
So let get down to business. They had planned this date a while back to try and understand each
others opinions after they both published their articles. They had emailed each other a while back.

Emily kindly accepts and asks What would you like to talk about first? Amanda responds with her
main concern first with So who's fault is it? Amanda anticipates her response. Emily replies with I
believe that when a woman puts herself in a bad position by drinking too much, she is being
irresponsible and shouldn't be surprised about what could happen next... then it is her fault. We have to
acknowledged that women are responsible for themselves and binge drinking puts themselves in a very
bad position. Amanda snaps back with What can a woman do if she is forced against her will, sober
or not. And why should women be forced not to drink when men can do whatever they want? Emily
follows calmly with The truth is men are in control of the situation when you are intoxicated. As
disturbing as it sounds, punishing the perpetrator will only do so much damage to the issue. You also
have to make females aware that the decisions they make will change the chances of being raped. Due
to her circumstances, Amanda is angry with Emily for not standing up for women, but she expected this
to happen. If you make stricter punishments for the rapist, then they'll think twice about doing it. You
can change the rate of rape and still allow women to drink and have fun at parties. Emily then closes
the conversation with Maybe you're right, but rape is still going to happen no matter what the
consequences are. Binge drinking is dangerous and compromises the judgment for males and females
compromised, and because women are the victims in this situation, they must protect themselves. I'm
not saying that it's the girls fault every time, but something needs to be done. Amanda lift her glass
and replies Cheers to that! Women need to be more responsible, but stricter laws and harsher
punishments should be put in place so we can stop this epidemic! They bring there drinks together and
yell Cheers!
PART 3
In my opinion both article are correct, but for specific reasons. If a woman gets wasted and

consents to sex, and then wakes up and says Oops I didn't mean to do that, then I agree with the
information in College Women, Stop Getting Drunk. Yes, women are the victim, but I think that they
are given too much power the morning after. They can just say I was too drunk, you should of
known. Then the male is sentenced to punishments, and all he did was ask. On the other hand, if the
female victim is forced to have sex or isn't conscious of what's going on when it happens, then yes it is
the males fault and he should be punished. This is wrong and completely unacceptable by the male
race. Unfortunately, when women get too drunk and don't remember anything it becomes a
controversial issue where there's no proof and it goes right back to everyone saying, She was drunk,
you should have known. This is why I believe that the punishments are so harsh for the male. Most of
the time no one knows who's fault it was and justice must be served. I just can't stand it when women
say I was drinking and then I had sex with him, but I wish I didn't. I was drunk so Im going to call this
rape. Women almost use this as an escape route for having too much sex. They use it to justify their
actions.
