Rhetorical Situation and Genre
Having a rhetorical situation involves understanding a a situational issue and the
constraints that follow concerning the context and relevance of that issue. In my first writing
assignment, I required a specific communicatory solution to my situational issue of needing a
means to converse with my family while being financially and technologically restricted in
certain respects. I understood my current ability and proceeded to look for a solution. My
research on a search engine assisted with my quest to understand what technologies were
available. It had extended my understanding to different situational constraints. Constraints
within regard to situational analysis involve contrasting separate views. One can gain various
angles of a situational perspective by looking at several angles, even opposing ends if necessary.
In my second major writing assignment, this necessity arose. I took note of the relevance of the
current defense for digital note users that believe that Evernote will not make it, despite my
disagreement. I noted the relevance and compiled an understanding of what perspective the
defense was trying to achieve.
My conclusive research and understanding had resulted in the supporting reasons of why
many dont support the success of the product, and ultimately contrasting the opposing
possibilities. This is how i learned that understanding views comes with understanding the
discourse community that may come with them. Looking closely at a discourse in particular can
provide specific insight to the situation at large. Attempting to gain this insight in my third and
final major writing assignment, I took it upon myself to understand and analyze the various
obstacles and components behind Evernote's Audience. I interviewed an active user by the name
of Nathan, moving on to contrasting the compiled research and commentary to shed light on the
matter. The relevance of the assignment was a challenge to balance, considering the rhetoric
constraints had to be found and then gathered from different sources. For example a portion of
my research involved understanding some current goals and issues for the corporation, following
a profile interview to realize how an interviewee of this nature ties in to the situational relevance
of the issue at large. The conclusive portion of my interview and research had resulted in a
contrast supporting the benefits of a note taking suite toward a specific audience, and the overall
benefits and potential solution for the company.

Writing as a Social Act

Writing as a social act represents our specific role in certain discourse communities by
expressing my respective individual traits and interests through the process of collaborative

writing. In my first writing assignment, I mentioned my cousin and how him and myself would
many times discuss modern technology. We both had a mutual affinity for the interest. My take
and opinions were held independently with respect to his, yet we would grow off each other's
thoughts despite settle differences. The process as a whole has helped me evaluate this situation
and understand the important collaborative and specific social roles that we play involving the
writing process. Specific social roles in the writing process ranges immensely as can be observed
in my second major writing assignment. In my description of the use of notes I mentioned many
different people from students to businessmen use notes on a daily basis and have been using
notes for such a long time. The usage of these types of notes have encouraged people to jot down
information and transfer different communicatory expressions to many different fields and
interests.
Understanding this concept as a whole has intrigued me to understand the essential
process of writing and revising in drafts. Which includes the technologically adept ability to
collaborate and discuss with the written notes in drafts using such technologies.
In my final writing assignment I chose a specific social role to exemplify the use of technology, a
student by the name of Nathan. As my interview profile had begun for my rhetorical situation, I
had mentioned Nathan's use of notes in his academic progress. The incorporation of the digital
platform had allowed him to revisit, revise, and utilize his notes into later discussions. This
technological aspect provided the means to easily exchange notes, as well to receive and
annotate his own with fellow peers. Abilities such as this to collaborate and discuss have
contributed greatly in various discourse communities. Having a product that can power
opportunity to collaborate and write as a social act have been essential to many such as Nathan.
Writing as a Process
During the preparation for my first major assignment, much prewriting, and revision was
crucial. I took the time to look over and benefit from the feedback I received regarding lack of
company persuasion. I then engaged in online research to gain a understanding of the potential
employers company culture. This was to gain a deeper understanding of their corporate
mentality, trying to achieve a more focused persuasion. Incorporating this feedback allowed me
to display my most related traits and attributes accordingly. Gaining a solid relational
understanding of the company and contrasting it to my goals allowed me to achieve an
understanding of mutual and apparent interests regarding the business and myself. The process of
incorporating feedback includes more than online research alone.
Preparation for my second major writing assignment for example, involved pre-writing
and brainstorming in revision and was crucial to the overall refinement of the presentation. I took
the time to look over and benefit from the feedback that I received during our peer review. It
involved me understanding the lack of the specific angle that was involved in my presentation as
a whole. Incorporating the feedback allowed me to specify and refine the angle that I was
initially uncertain of regarding the topic of the presentation. This became useful for my final
writing assignment as I realized that approaching a topic from any source involves understanding
how to approach that source as well. With the preparation for this assignment requiring to know
what exactly to ask the profile subject, it was crucial to revisit potential questions relating to the
most profound rhetoric issues. During our class peer review, I had received some advice
concerning the spectrum of questions that should be presented to the subject. It was truly helpful
realizing to tune down technical information, and focus on gathering mutually related
information pertaining to the profile's specific involvement. A particularly challenging aspect

was to write down and prepare the questions, while maintaining clarity in respect to both the
issue at large and the profile subject.
Grammar and Usage
My fluency in the dialect of Standardized Written American English is still an evolving
effort. With regards to my first writing assignment, I attempted to address my sentence forms to
comply with standard. The dialect registers presented in the assignment were mutual overall. The
value of incorporating various components of dialect in my text is settle yet spoken for. This
involves the understanding that drastic differences may not always occur, while analyzing the
situational register. I feel more comfortable attempting to break down the process while
understanding, analyzing and putting different situational registers into perspective.
I truly feel that the balance for the words chosen and the grammar involved in the process has
influenced complexity in terms of the audiences understanding. In turn this process enhances the
writing assignment as a whole.
Achieving clarity without over complicating the necessary vocabulary and
simultaneously executing the proficiency of grammar was a goal I was happy to achieve. For
example, explaining and persuading the necessity of cloud computing to a general audience that
could range from slightly experienced to none at all, and becoming geared toward the general
student audience. I believe that regaining focus to the manner of how we write effects the
rhetoric efficacy by nature. Nevertheless, my comfortability and ability to analyze the process in
a simpler manner has allowed me to regain and maintain focus. The focus has been put forward
to breaking down the process to oversee various situational registers and assess more appropriate
grammar constructs. Finding the relevant balance in grammar composition and complexity is
important in appealing to the targeted audience. It may also very well contribute to the clarity of
understanding, for example tying in to the essential writing process as previously mentioned.
Reflection
My pursuit to develop my skills as a persuasive writer in this course has become better
with surprise to myself. I realized that my current writing style has become more consistent and
contributes to a better overall writing pattern. In my first writing assignment, I attempted to
achieve this balance from the personal experience to the insightful connection. I can apply the
means that I used to write this assignment to other implications, such as writing for my self, or
creating a memoir style blog. Utilizing the experience from the angles and technology used can
lead to an advantage with several forms of writing and digital communication. Angles in writing
are fundamental in terms of persuasion as I began to see. In my second major writing assignment
I attempted to compile my skill of persuasion in an effort to simplify my rhetoric and
understanding of the overall persuasive process of the assignment. It gives me an understanding
and furthermore a belief of being able to bring across an idea or thought in persuasive efforts
without over complicating the entire structure of my explanation.
Conclusively, this takes me back to one of my original, yet initially unnoticed issues. In
my attempt to become a better persuasive writer, I hadn't realized that simplifying technical
concepts in regard to clarity and focus results in an important development my of writing skill. It
is now that I further see the necessary effort in understanding rhetoric from multiple views and
adaptations. I have enjoyed finding a fine line between gathering information and presenting it in
both a sufficient and compelling way. In regard to gaining sufficient contrast of rhetorical
components.

Research
Research is an important outlet in the writing process, it allows to compare information
and retrieve artifacts crucial to the assignment. For my first writing assignment, I was motivated
to gain an understanding of the company I was applying to. While simultaneously understanding
the similarities that we both hold. The research applied to adaptation of digital writing forms, and
evolving mentality regarding the matter. This allowed me to gain a weighted perspective from
multiple angles. In addition, I found myself discovering new points and perspectives to make and
connect throughout the writing. Organization comes hand in hand, as with regards to comparing
and contrasting various means of artifacts.
For my second writing assignment I used the information that I summarized , this was
preferred rather than putting all of the comparative analysis' within each slide separately. I left
the continuation of the contrasting between the artifacts up to the simple and hinting division of
the slides and information. Presentation as I discovered includes optimizing content
appropriately for the audience. During my process of research for my final writing assignment, I
compressed the researched material to achieve an appropriately simplified explanation for my
intended audience.
I had gained my previous artifacts and revisited related ones accordingly to gain more
focus on my conclusive points. The intended audience had previously been identified to a
specific degree. This was in order to maintain focus toward a specific point in my previous
writing assignment. It appropriately builds and contributes to the addition of narrowing the focus
to a more specific yet branching discourse community. Naturally, I had to balance my research
that I would select to match and support my new focus toward the related discourse. The selected
mean presentation had been chosen to be a blog, this allowed for incorporation of my various
modes of artifacts. In summation, the support of the selected means of presentation and the
narrowing focus based research had unified and intern clarify my intended scope of the
assignment.
