Throughout my time in the field of education I have continued to believe
that all students can learn. This is why as a school leader it will be my goal to help facilitate the development of a shared vision that will work towards instilling the idea that all students can learn. It is our responsibility as leaders, educators, and community members to create a high quality-learning environment that is inclusive and child-centered as well as focuses on learning and achievement. Our vision will involve developing a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that embraces and goes beyond external mandates and provides each student with a first-class education. We will work to provide authentic instruction, which involves higher-order thinking, thorough understanding, and conversation that will help to create new knowledge to the students life beyond the school. Our vision will also work toward authentic assessments that will help students apply what is being learned in the classroom to the world outside of school. As Dr. Willard Daggett mentions in the book, The Leader in Me, What students need to succeed in the twenty-first century is an education that is both academically rigorous and real-world relevant (Covey, Loc. 879). Positive relationships are a major element in a school system. As a school leader it will be necessary to create positive working relationships with all stakeholders. By leading through example, it will help to provide a safe, supportive, effective, and efficient learning environment for staff, students, and the community. Honesty and trust are two traits that are essential to exhibit as a leader. Our decisions need to be well informed, wise and responsible to be sure that we are always looking out for the greater good of our students and community. Quality communication throughout a school is crucial. Face to face communication will be on the top of the list in our school. It is beneficial to create an atmosphere in a building with a two way, open door policy in which all teachers, students, and other members of the community feel welcomed to enter. It is important that my presence is felt throughout the school so that students and teachers feel supported in all that they do. We will work together to create an environment that: Ensures staff that their voice is heard and creates a work environment in which they enjoy coming to every day Provides parents with a sense of safety and security and an opportunity for them to feel they have a voice in their childs education Enables students to be educated in a safe, supportive and effective learning environment where all students have the ability to develop into productive, self sufficient and independent adults Changes the teaching paradigm in a way that focuses on instilling quality leadership skills throughout
