Existence is composed of words, flourishing strokes of ink burdened with the

idiosyncrasies of mankind. These insignificant characters, forged in strength and resilience, pain
and grief, amalgamate to the triumphs and downfalls of the writers and the written. As the former
and latter, language and composition have adulterated the nuances of my coming and going
years. Novels such as Wild and South of Broad and authors like Emerson and Thoreau have
emboldened my aspirations as a writer, intellectual, and leader. Since my birth on May 12, 1998,
parents Chris and Catrina Britton have sustained my literary mandates; from Harry Potter to
New York Times and all intermingled transitions, my small-town upbringing in Cornelia,
Georgia has created large-scale impacts that reverberate in the style and tone of my writing.
After a youth spent envious of Middle Earth or an education at Hogwarts, my experiences at
Habersham Central High School- inclusive of various AP classes and an internship at the
Northeast Georgian newspaper- have crafted an aspiring journalist, politician, and revolutionary.
Family and friends taint my memories of the past and my dreams of the future, but other
unrelated individuals significantly contribute to my present. As the oppressive shrill of a morning
bell marked the initiation of my junior year, a woman prowled into the room with flaming hair
and kindred eyes shouting nonsensical sages regarding the absolutes of life, something about the
American Dream, and finally detailing her murderous lust for in-class essays. I was to be her
Wombat, as she affectionately christened her subjects, and she was to be our ruling Mombat.
Dr. Galati, a name murmured with a sense of fearful reverence, has ensured the evolution of my
skills as a thinker and writer through AP Language and Composition. The class serves to
enhance knowledge of nonfiction texts, which amalgamates to a deeper awareness of current
events impacting the political, social, and economic positions of various regions of the world.
Ultimately, Dr. Galati has stimulated academic and abstract growth amid a classroom setting;

she also nominated me for the Governors Honors Program in the field of Communicative Arts
and has played a pivotal role in the rigorous application process.
Spirits and airlines soared during the heavy heat of the summer of 2013, when my youth
group partnered with City Vision to facilitate a mission trip to New York City. The bustling
metropolis was infinite life and prosperity juxtaposed to the mundane monotony of Georgia back
roads and backwards thinking. New York personified my ethereal ambitions, soaring as high as
skyscrapers, a place where I would combat social hierarchies to become the Gatsby of the news
world. Home to the New York Times and Time Magazine, the city holds irrevocable importance
in my life as an allocation of dedication and subsequent success.
A series of impactful events, people, and places can be ascribed to the continuity of one
single event: Salvation. As the most memorable moments of my life occurred in the confines of
The Torch Church of God, a place more adequately surmises countless occurrences. From my
own salvation to those that I would guide or helplessly facilitate, acceptance and commitment to
a paternal God most altered my existence- not only in that moment, but in the subsequent
adventure stimulated by a quest for eternal love. Through Christianity I have witnessed in myself
and others the mightiness of God, as creator of the universe and as the attentive Lord of our
individual lives. Therefore, not only religion but also my own personal relationship with God
dictate the nuances of my existence.
As my high school career approaches a resounding end, my future has gained new esteem
or relevance. Sunday nights will find my family gathered around the television, anxiously
pondering the authority and courage of a fearless leader. Synonymous with the inaptitude of
many Americans, my Dream is allocated to a television hit series: Madam Secretary. While
anatomically impossible, AP courses, journalistic experience, and TV have all united my passion

for English with an admiration for political science. Politics is the most effective form of
leadership, where humanitarian ambitions expound to world peace, equality, and democracy.
Recently, I have decided that I will double major in Journalism or Communications and English,
with a minor in Political Science. With a degree, I have limitless opportunities. I could write
speeches for politicians or participate as a candidate and potential governing official myself.
However, I may also pursue a journalistic career with a focus on humanitarian issues, employing
the English language to capture the grievances of our world and offer resolutions and hope to a
suffering populace. My most pressing fear is succumbing to death after a lackluster life, or
wasting any potential I possess because of fear. I most admire courage as it is a necessity for the
posterity of my existence, where ambition and bravery unite to transform the world.
