TERMINOLOGY
EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY
Education technology or
edtech refers to any type of
technology used for
educational purposes. It is
commonly used, but not
limited to use in primary,
secondary and higher
education.
BLENDED LEARNING
Blended learning or hybrid
learning is a teaching
practice where traditional
class room instruction is
used alongside of online
learning; a combination of
teacher interaction and
computing devices.
VIRTUAL CLASSROOM
A virtual classroom is
different than blended
learning as instruction is
conducted solely through the
online server, where the
student and instructor
interact.
CLICKERS
A device or app used in
classrooms that enables
students to reply to multiple
choice questions as the
teacher presents a question
before the entire class.
VIDEOCONFERENCING
A technology practice where
two or more participants
conduct a conference from
different locations using
transmissions of audio and
video.

BYOD
DIGITAL CLASSROOM
Digital classrooms are those
that depend manly on
electronic sources rather
than pen and paper. A digital
classroom may use a central
computing device, such as a
laptop or a computer, with
apps and other online
software.
ASYNCHRONOUS
A term used in distance
learning and in
telecommunication that refers
to the exchange of
communication and other
related data at intermittent
times. Online discussion
boards are a good example of
an Asynchronous activity as
one may post hours or even
days after the original post.
ATM
ATM or Asynchronous
Transfer Mode is a
networking technology used
to transfer information across
local area networks as well as
wide area networks. It is
mainly used to connect
computers over long
distances.
LAN
ROUTER
A device used to connect
local area networks to wide
area networks
WIRELESS
Wireless refers to any
technology that uses radio or
light waves to transmit
information. Although not as
reliable as wired networks, it
is highly convenient.
