Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder that adversely
affects the body's ability to manufacture and use insulin. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy for daily life. With the help of insulin therapy, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.
If you have type 2 diabetes your
body does not use insulin properly. At first, your pancreas makes extra insulin to make up for it. But, over time it isn't able to keep up and can't make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at normal levels.

Often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, diabetes is caused
because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Which is also called insulin resistance. This disorder can affect the eyes, arteries, kidneys, nervous system, and blood vessels.
Neither are sex-linked. Type 1 can be directly inherited
but type 2 genetic factors mostly increase risks. Diabetes are recessive, a genetic change known as paternal uniparental disomy (UPD) of chromosome 6.
People with type 1 diabetes must use insulin, they could
get injections of insulin by doctors or take pills of insulin. Some people with type 2 diabetes can manage their diabetes with healthy eating and exercise. However, your doctor may need to also prescribe pills of insulin to help you meet your target blood glucose levels.
If your doctor determines that your blood glucose level is
very high, or if you have classic symptoms of high blood glucose in addition to one positive test, your doctor may not require a second test to diagnose diabetes. The Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is a two-hour test that checks your blood glucose levels before and 2 hours after you drink a special sweet drink. It tells the doctor how your body processes glucose. Another thing to test to see if you have diabetes, is by checking to see if you have gone through any of the symptons.
In the fifties, about one in five people with type 1 diabetes
died within 20 years after diagnosis. Now, with proper care, these individuals can have a normal lifespan. More than 29 million people in the United States have diabetes (9.3 percent). 1 in 4 doesnt even know they have it.
A lot of people could get diabetes, not just normal
people, but even celebrities have diabetes. Like, Nick Jonas, Tom Hank, Halle Berry, Paula Deen, Sherri Shepard, and more! Many organizations, including ADA and JDRF, are pitching in donating money, having fundraisers, and treating patients with diabetes, just to stop it! So everyone can get the insulin needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy for daily life. So I finally understand what diabetes mean!
