Macbeth Group Drama Assignment

During our short study of Shakespeare's Macbeth, students will have an opportunity to entertain
the class, while learning one scene of the play in depth. Its been shown that students only absorb 10%
of what they read, 20% of what they hear and see, and 90% of what they teach others. In order to
maximize time and reward effort, students will be 'teaching' the class at least once scene of the drama. In
groups of 2-4 students, choose of the following options:
A) Read out the scene as it was written (blank verse) complete with
costumes and / or props. This involves students staying in
character throughout and a short analysis afterwards.
B) Create a modern adaptation of the scene to present to the class.
This should still refer to themes, character development, and plot.
C) Write a formal expository essay on one of the selected topics.
Further Instructions:
Choose a scene from Acts II-V, of at least three pages in length, to
dissect and / or perform. Only one group can select each scene, so make a
quick, and entertaining choice.
Each group needs to explain (A and B choices only briefly) the importance of the scene for
character development, plot, and theme.
Groups are expected to stay with the 10-20 minute
presentation time limit. These presentations will occur on
______________________________________________. Groups
will sign up in order of their scene.
