The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to
engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teachers and learners decision making. Name of Artifact: Preschool Observation Date: March 2014 Course: EDUC 121: Child & Adolescent Development Brief Description: For this observation, I assessed the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth of a preschooler in his home. With reference to child development experts throughout my observation summary paper, I was able to differentiate the usual and unusual behaviors of the child I observed. Rationale: To document my understanding of Assessment, I have selected to include my Preschool Observation because it demonstrates a style of interactive assessment that allowed for monitoring progress. The information gained from this assessment observation validates the fact that it is useful for teachers to evaluate their students multiple times a month in order to show individual improvements of each child over the course of a school year. Through the information I obtained, I could pinpoint areas of weaknesses and strengths of the child, which would be useful in guiding the child down educational pathways best suited for his individual needs.
