Section II: Goals, Strategies and Metrics

Introduction to Goals Strategies and Metrics:
Argos Community Schools vision for technology in education is to ensure that all students are able to meet the needs and
expectations of the 21st century workplace.
Argos Community Schools strives to promote individual responsibility and academic excellence to the best of each
student's ability. This is attained within a school climate that accepts all students of varying abilities and interests.
Instructional strategies designed to develop higher level thinking skills are supported by technology to foster interactive,
collaborative, and innovative teaching and learning.

Goal:
Engage students in meaningful curricular content through the purposeful and effective use of technology

Strategies:
Online classroom materials both in-house and purchased will be explored and utilized daily in all classrooms. Classroom interactive
devices (MOBI, 'clickers', document readers, etc) will be used to help teachers integrate technology into their everyday teaching
style.

Metrics:
Engage students in meaningful curricular content through the purposeful and effective use of technology

Progress:
Teachers in both buildings are utlizing online resources (NBC Learn, youtube, Education City, Study Island) almost daily in
activities across the curriculum. 2014-15 The use of technology is our classrooms is increasing. We are seeing more teachers
purchase their own Ipads/tablets to use in their delivery. We are also purchasing Apple TVs to allow the displaying of the teacher
IPad from the projectors.

Goal:
Students will use technology in socially responsible ways to enhance productivity, communication, research, and collaboration and to
demonstrate their understanding of curriculum concepts

Strategies:
The implementation of high-quality Internet safety program, student access to school provided e-mail and daily interaction with
technology will be utilized.

Metrics:
Students will use technology in socially responsible ways to enhance productivity, communication, research, and collaboration and
to demonstrate their understanding of curriculum concepts

Progress:
Students in grades 7-12 are given time each day to check e-mail and correspond with teachers and other staff members. Students in
these grades are also given a login to our SIS (Skyward) to check grades/assignements and also communicate directly with teachers
through the built in "message center" within our SIS. Students in grades K-6 work with the classroom teacher on building the
technical skills to become a good online citizen.

Goal:
All students in grades 5-12 will have their own "digital textbook" to use on a daily basis both at school as well as at home

Strategies:
Several different options will be evaluated to achieve this goal. The end result could be a netbook, laptop, ereader, or tablet device

Metrics:
All students in grades 5-12 will have their own "digital textbook" to use on a daily basis both at school as well as at home

Progress:
Progress is moving slowly on this goal. We are still in a planning stage and finally have gotten some teacher "buy in" form our jr
high. We are hoping to move forward with a plan to give 7th and 8th graders devices starting in 2013-14. 2014-15 -- We are
moving closer towards this goal. In 2013-14 we ran a pilot program with 7th graders using netbooks and google docs. The
program went well and we now plan to add 8th grade in 2014-15 with the ultimate goal of Chromebooks in grades 6-8 starting in
2015-16. Plans are to add the 9-12 grades in 2016-17 and grades 3 and 4 in 2017-18. In the meantime we are also allowing the
students in grades 4-12 who are not in the pilot program to BYOD (bring your own device).

Goal:
Provide high-quality professional development to help educators create, maintain, and work in a variety of learner-centered
environments.

Strategies:
Both in-house "Train the trainer" and outside resources will be used to conduct professional development. Teachers and
staff will be notified of opportunities in their content area as well as weekly opportunities after school "Technology
Tuesdays" or "Mobi Mondays". Indiana's premier technology conferences (ICE and HECC) will be attended
annually by both teaching staff and technology staff.

11

Metrics:
Provide high-quality professional development to help educators create, maintain, and work in a variety of learner-centered
environments.

Progress:
Teachers are working with each other weekly on improving their technical proficiency. We still offer Mobi Mondays and are
thinking of adding a Tech Tuesday for some more advanced opportunities. 2014-15 in house professional development were again
offered and attended this school year. We also have several teachers attending some summer IDOE elearning conferences and we
are looking at having a Google certified teacher train some staff members this summer in using GAFE (Google Apps for Education).

School Level Implementation

All classrooms at Argos Elementary School are equipped with several different forms of technology for the teacher to use to integrate technology
into their curriculum. Each room contains a Windows 7 computer for teacher use. Teachers also have a MOBI portable whiteboard and two MOBI
learners for student use. All classrooms have an audio/video solution with a projector connected to the instructor computer as well as a DVD
player. Many classrooms have classroom response systems (clickers) and also document cameras. Students in grades five and six each have
individual logins and are allowed to save data in a home directory. All other students have a class login that they use and save data in.
Software is installed on network servers, which allows the students to use the programs from any computer in the school. Some of the software the
students use are: All The Right Type, Read Naturally, many Micrograms titles, Millies Math House, and many others. Students use the Scholastic
Reading Counts program to take book quizzes on a variety of books that are available in the library. The elementary also subscribes to other online
titles such as: BrainPop/BrainPopJr., Study Island, and Education City. Microsoft Office 2010 is available corporation wide for productivity
(Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc).
We believe our staff members must be able to effectively use technology to the learning advantage of their students. In order to achieve this, we
must provide a supportive environment that aids the educator to become comfortable with a variety of technology applications. Research indicates
that school corporations that spend one-quarter to one-half of their technology dollars for staff development see those expenditures pay off in
enhanced student learning. We truly realize that infrastructure includes both the human resource (professional learning and support) side as well
as a technology (hardware, software, facility) side.
We recognize the many shortcomings of traditional approaches to professional development. Sending teachers to professional conferences with no
follow-up discussion or training and the one-time visiting expert are probably two of the most common approaches that fall into this category.
Attending conferences is important because they inform and guide teachers. Listening to experts is important for they show and inspire teachers.
However, we do not believe instructional change will occur unless these experiences are part of an on-going, site-based, teacher-led, professional
development program. Since research has shown that teacher-to-teacher training can have a positive impact on instructional practice and student
achievement, we want to develop a plan that assists our teachers to become the "experts." These "experts" can then train and assist others in their
building in a "just-in-time" manner that promotes teacher collaboration, follow-up discussions, peer support and encouragement. To help the staff
become technology proficient, we have developed three levels of competence in a variety of areas. The Technology Coordinator will give and/or set
up hands-on presentations and workshops for the various levels in each area. Following these presentations, there will be time for practice and
additional individual help. To assist staff members to become proficient in each area, stipends will be paid for class time outside of regular school
hours and a reward/point system will be established to encourage everyone to complete all levels of instruction.

activities across the curriculum~P2u@The use of technology is our classrooms is increasing. We are seeing more teachers purchase
their own Ipads/tablets to use in their delivery. We are also purchasing Apple TVs to allow the displaying of the teacher IPad from
the projectors.

Indiana's premier technology conferences (ICE and HECC) will be
attended
annually by both teaching staff and technology staff.

Metrics:
Provide high-quality professional development to help educators create, maintain, and work in a variety of learner-centered
environments.

Progress:
Teachers are working with each other weekly on improving their technical proficiency. We still offer Mobi Mondays and are
thinking of adding a Tech Tuesday for some more advanced opportunities.~P2u@in house professional development were again

offered and attended this school year. We also have several teachers attending some summer IDOE elearning conferences and we
are looking at having a Google certified teacher train some staff members this summer in using GAFE (Google Apps for Education).

~P2u@Students continue to use email in grades 7-12 on a daily basis. We've
added Google Docs this year for more collaboration activities and to have access to documents at home.

Goal:
All students in grades 5-12 will have their own "digital textbook" to use on a daily basis both at school as well as
at home

Strategies:
Several different options will be evaluated to achieve this goal. The end result could be a netbook, laptop, ereader, or tablet device

Metrics:
All students in grades 5-12 will have their own "digital textbook" to use on a daily basis both at school as well
as at home

Progress:
Progress is moving slowly on this goal. We are still in a planning stage and finally have gotten some teacher "buy in" form our jr
high. We are hoping to move forward with a plan to give 7th and 8th graders devices starting in 2013-14.~P2u@ We are moving
closer towards this goal. In 2013-14 we ran a pilot program with 7th graders using netbooks and google docs. The program went
well and we now plan to add 8th grade in 2014-15 with the ultimate goal of Chromebooks in grades 6-8 starting in 2015-16. Plans
are to add the 9-12 grades in 2016-17 and grades 3 and 4 in 2017-18. In the meantime we are also allowing the students in grades 412 who are not in the pilot program to BYOD (bring your own device).

School Level Implementation

Argos Jr/Sr High School has been utilizing technology in education for many years. In fact, in May of 2000 the school was named one of PC
Magazines Top 100 wired schools in America. In May US News and World Report have also named Argos Jr/Sr High School as one of the "Best
High Schools" in the country for 2012. All classrooms in the jr/sr high have recently been renovated to include an audio/video projection system.
Teachers have also received an updated Windows 7 computer for their use and it is connected to the projector. Many teachers also utilize the MOBI
portable whiteboard as well as a document camera and classroom response system clickers. Teachers and students use a variety of technology
daily. School announcements are produced jointly between the computer apps and journalism classes. Starting in 2012-13 these announcements
will be streamed to the Internet daily. All students have an individual login to the server that allows for saving of data to a home directory.
Students can access saved data files from any computer connected to the network throughout the school. Argos Jr/Sr High School utilizes many
specialty programs and subscription services for student use such as, Microsoft Office 2010, BrainPop, and Study Island. Students are using
PowerPoint, Prezi and Word almost daily to produce a number of reports and presentations. Teachers use PowerPoint to visualize daily lectures.
The Internet is seamlessly integrated into each teachers curriculum in a variety of ways. Many teachers use the Internet for professional and
personal research in order to prepare for daily instruction. Most teachers also involve the students in research projects that use the Internet as well
as other forms of information. Students are required to complete research projects every year. Students are able to research these projects using
the librarys automated catalog as well as the Internet. Students in grades 7-12 have a school provided e-mail account that has greatly improved
communication between teachers and students. Students also use this email address to communicate with outside agencies for research as well as
post-secondary school communications. With the addition of the INAccess classrooms, Argos Jr/Sr High School has now adopted Moodle as a new
online classroom tool. Currently the English and Science departments are utilizing this tool, but in the future we hope to offer several more online
opportunities for our students. Open source software is utilized in all the INAccess classrooms. Students create presentations and documents that
are both readable and writable by MS Office using Office products. Inkscape and Scribus are used to create professional looking documents. Cmap, a content mapping program, is being utilized by both students and teachers for brainstorming ideas. GIMP, a photo editor is also being used
to manipulate images on all school computers. Open source CDs are also made available to the students who wish to install these software titles on
their home computers. We are looking at expanding the INAccess model into more classrooms (jr high English, and science) in the future.
Sending teachers to professional conferences with no follow-up discussion or training and the one-time visiting expert are probably two of the most
common approaches that fall into this category. Attending conferences is important because they inform and guide teachers. Listening to experts is
important for they show and inspire teachers. However, we do not believe instructional change will occur unless these experiences are part of an
on-going, site-based, teacher-led, professional development program. Since research has shown that teacher-to-teacher training can have a
positive impact on instructional practice and student achievement, we want to develop a plan that assists our teachers to become the "experts."
These "experts" can then train and assist others in their building in a "just-in-time" manner that promotes teacher collaboration, follow-up
discussions, peer support and encouragement. To help the staff become technology proficient, we have developed three levels of competence in a
variety of areas. The Technology Coordinator will give and/or set up hands-on presentations and workshops for the various levels in each area.
Following these presentations, there will be time for practice and additional individual help.
