San Francisco is one of the biggest barangay of the municipality of Sta.

Catalina,
a sugar producer municipality in the Southern part of the province. It has a total
estimated land area of 80 sq. km,, population of 6,000 with 2,000 households, 20% of
the population is living in the barangay proper and 80% distributed in the different
sitios that comprised San Francisco.
Farming and fishing are the main source of income of the people in the
community. Statistics shows that most parents belong to agricultural sector. There
are also few professional, skilled worker middlemen and other related workers
employed in the municipality of Sta. Catalina a very and nearby cities/municipalities.
Most of the residents are Roman Catholic in religion although little percentage belong
to other affiliation.
The quest of knowledge is as old as man himself. The establishment of the
school came about of this.
When people began to live as a community in Maloconan, now known as San
Francisco, a school was established. Barrio folks who could recall as a 1934 said that a
school was located near the Catholic church. It was basically a primary school
composed of Grades 1, II and III. One of the pioneering teachers was Mr. Emiliano
Torres of Bayawan.
Classes were disrupted and totally stopped when World War II erupted. At
peacetime, around 1950, the school was rebuilt in the present site and became a
complete elementary school.
The earliest remembered Head Teacher was Mr. Abella of Bacong. When he
was transferred in 1954, Mr. Floro Larena took over as Head Teacher. From now on,
several head teachers and principals had took the helm of
San Francisco Elementary School. They have turned out numerous graduates who
have taken their place in the society.
Presently, the school is headed by a Female Elementary School Principal 1 with
15 nationally funded teachers. It has 7 building a total of 14 classrooms.
