besides Mike, a front desk receptionist, counselor,
and math tutor.

Classroom
Environment
There are about 12 students in each lab,
there are 2 labs in the school total.
The students do there class work on
computers.
There are 3 different sessions the students
can attend; AM class 8am-12pm, PM class
12:15pm-4:15pm, and night school 5pm8pm. (Mon & Wed)
There are strict rules about talking,
wandering, cheating, using inappropriate
language and anything that is illegal such
as alcohol, cigarettes, weapons, etc.

Peer Questions
1.) What will you bring to your future class that
you liked in your observation classroom?
* The biggest thing I noticed and want to bring to my
classroom is the type of relationship Mr.
Hanneman and his staff had with their students.
They knew that to keep these students engaged
they had to make it more exciting than just being
on the computer doing work all the time. They
knew when it was ok for them to joke around with
the students and make it fun and they knew when
they had to be serious. Every student said they
would not ever come to school if it wasnt for the
teachers and staff around them. I want my
students to feel the same way.

2.) Did you see children being socialized more

often by their teachers, or by their peers?
It was a very different environment at Rebound
than at other school. Most of the students there are
students that have been in trouble at their other
schools and have been expelled. Because of this the
staff has to be very strict with the students
socializing so I saw the students being more
socialized by their teachers than by their peers.

3.) Did the teacher treat students with

disabilities (ADD, Autism, etc) differently?
* No, he treated ever student with the same
amount of respect and kindness. He did
however go out of his way to make sure that
the students who needed more attention or
more help was given it and he worked very
hard to make sure every student was
progressing in their classes .

4.) Did the teacher have control of her/his

class?
* Yes, he made sure that there was a set of
rules that each student had to obey by. He
also had a strike out system in place so that
any of the staff members can give a student
a strike if they are not obeying the rules.
After 3 strikes they are sent home for the
day and have to make up the hours they
missed at night school.

5.) What was the most important thing you

learned about yourself during observation?
* The most important thing that I learned about
myself during this observation is that I have to
be confident in myself. To help these students,
I had to believe that I knew what I was talking
about and I could not second guess myself all
the time like I tend to do. I had to move past
my initial feeling of being nervous and
insecure and just believe in myself.
