This article goes into detail about the gameplay and content
that is in Devil May Cry 3:Dantes Awakening .

Story
Devil May Cry 3: Dantes Awakening is the third game in the devil may cry series and the
story behind it is Dantes Twin brother Vergil and a mysterious man named Arkham release
an ancient tower which is called the Temen-ni-gru from below a modern city and use Dante
to unlock the gate to the demonic realm.

Gameplay
Devil May Cry plays different to the predecessors although it sticks to the main aspect of the
game which is slaying demons and solving puzzle along the way to progress through the
levels. The things that make this game different to the other Devil May Cry games is that it
focuses more on the emphasis of style rather than just your standard hack and slash video
game. In the combat system you can now switch between both devil arms and fire arms
using the R2 and L2 buttons that re on the standard PlayStation 2 controller which allows for
a more powerful and stylish strings of combos which will progress your stylish rank which is
now represented by a gauge which fills up as you execute combos but also dodging
enemies attacks.

In the gameplay there are 4 different styles which you can change between:
Trickster: which focuses on evasion techniques allow you to evade enemies attacks but also
increases your standard speed.

Swordmaster: Swordmaster focuses on devil arms and melee combat. It allows maximum
use of all of your devil arms and allows you to use them to their full potential and is
recommended for those who prefer close combat.
Gunslinger: Brings out the best in the fire arms used in the game allowing the player to
unleash devastating firepower from a distance and adds finesse to your moves.
Royal Guard: Royal Guard is the strongest and hardest style to master and it allows the
player to guard and counter enemys attacks and turn their powers on them.

Weapons
Devil arms
Rebellion: is a massive broadsword with a heavy double edged blade notched on both sides
near the tip.

Cerberus: is a triple nunchacku which can stretch to enormous lengths and is fused with the
power of ice.

Agni & Rudra: are a pair of talking swords with serrated edges which are to swords, one with
the power if fire and the other with the power of wind.

Nevan: Is a guitar like devil arm which originates from nevan the lightning witch, when used
it can control powerful electrical bolts.

Beowulf: is a set of gauntlets which originate from Beowulf the light beast they are used for
close combat and can get through a big crowd of
enemies with ease.

Fire arms
Ebony & Ivory: Is Dantes trademark pair of semi-automatic pistols which he has personally
customized and is designed to rapidly fire bullets instilled with his demonic powers.

Shotgun: The shotgun is a hunting firearm that fires buckshots across a wide area making it
a good weapon to use at close range.

Artemis: is a demonic gun which fires arrows containing demonic energy, but also has the
ability to lock onto multiple enemies at once.

Spiral: is a large high technological rifle which fires high penetration bullets.

Kalina Ann: is Ladys trademark rocket launcher and can be used to shoot rockets, use as a
grappling hook or take out big crowds of enemies in one shot.

Developers
Looming into the actually game developers reasons to producing the game, the producer
Tsuyoshi Tanaka main focus was to create a game with a battle system that would allow a
player to control weapons in a new stylish way. This coincided with the games design and
they utilized a new type of in game camera which kept the character in focus when in a
crowded battle scene.

Characteristics
Hack and slash refers to a type of gameplay that is based on combat. In general on
console and arcade style video games there is a massive focus on combat with hand to tand
weapons as opposed to using guns, whereas Devil May Cry is a hack and slash with
aspects of a Beat em up game. The use of blood and gore emphasises the

Narrative structure
The narrative structure of Devil May cry 3 is that it has a closed ending where the missions
all lead up to the end and when the game is completed you can either play the game again
on a harder difficulty or if you have the special edition you get to play as Dantes Brother
Vergil and he has his own specific storyline to the game.
