Final Project English 3-Peterson

Research a human rights issue/violation and an NGO that serves those affected
by it. In a 4-5 minute speech:

Explain the causes of the event/trend/action/violation

Highlight some specific stories of victims & survivors
Use effective rhetorical strategies to make your audience care about your topic
Identify an NGO that is working to serve those affected and explain what they are doing
Discuss ways that average people can help and the impact that they can make

Some additional criteria:

You must use visual aids; Power Point, Prezi, and Google Presentation is acceptable
o If you choose to utilize Power Point, Prezi, or Google Presentation, you need to keep
each slide to a maximum of three lines of text and seven words per lineDO NOT READ
YOUR SPEECH FROM THE SCREEN!
You are giving a professional presentation on a topic of great importance; dress as professionally
as possible so you appear as credible as you sound
Your sources must be cited in MLA format on either a Works Cited page of your presentation or
in footnotes. If you use a poster or other visual aids, sources must still be cited appropriately in
MLA format.
You must use at least 3 credible sources of information. Obviously, you may not cite Wikipedia
as a source.
Refer to the rubric for scoring criteria; you will be graded on all of those traits.
You may use some of the readings/videos we have used in class as sources, but you must also
use at least 2 additional sources in your research.
For a proficient score, you must have a discernible introduction and conclusion.

Speeches will take place on 1/13, 1/15 & 1/20 (4th) 1/14, 1/16 & 1/21 (7th & 8th). Signup for
speech times will take place during class on 1/7 (4th) and 1/8 (7th & 8th).
