UBM Medica, Kent

UBM Medica is a publishing company that targets the pharmaceutical market. I was based at
one of its offices in Tonbridge, Kent.
I had a number of responsibilities whilst having the opportunity to work within different
departments that ran the business.
I worked with the illustrating department and watched journalists achieve their stories and I
helped choose the right diagrams and photos to match articles written about pharmaceutical
products.
I experienced working in the financial department and shadowed the tasks the employees
have been doing.
I had the chance to travel to the head office in London Bridge where I worked within the
Human Resources department and was shown how the recruitment process was carried out.
Overall I had an insight into all the departments which helped me to gain an understanding of
how the company ran.

New Look, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey

New Look Group Ltd has a chain of retail stores throughout the country selling the latest
fashion trends for women and now men.
I worked for New Look as a part time sales assistant in their Kingston store, located in the
Bentalls Centre.
I was provided with different rolls such as providing assistance in the fitting rooms, I made
sure all the items were tidy and in the correct place whilst working on the shop floor and I
was given training so I could work on the tills.
My experience in New Look helped me improve my multitasking and communicate better
with customers and my fellow staff and deal with problems/requests that needed to be assisted
in the right manner.

Curriculum Vitae
Interests and Activities

I have achieved a third diploma in classical Indian dancing, formally known as Kathak I
took this up for eight years.
At school, I was part of an extra activity called the Young Enterprise Scheme, where the
students formed a business and created a product. Each group had a managing director and
students were given their own roles.
This scheme really broadened my skills on how to communicate with others more effectively
and improved my ability to work better in a team. We had the chance to compete with other
schools in a competition which was very similar to the television programme Dragons Den.
I was part of the Rounders and Netball teams.
I took part in the Duke of Edinburgh award and completed the bronze level.
In college I was part of the magazine committee which I enjoyed as I worked with my friends
and volunteered to write about the topic Fashion, which included the in season trends as it
was one of our strong interests. This is one of the main reasons I enjoyed being part of the
committee.
