HAMBURG:QatarAirwayshastakendeliveryofitsfirstA380superjumbofollowingathree
monthstandoffwithplanemakerAirbusoverthequalityofcabinfittings.
ChiefExecutiveAkbarAlBakersaidAirbuswasnottoblameforthedelayeddeliveryofthe
world'slargestairliner,defusingtherowafterearlierthreateningtoseekcompensation.
HealsoexpressedconfidencethatthemidsizedA350,thecompany'snewestmodel,would
bedeliveredontimebeforetheendoftheyearandhintedatapossiblenewplaneorder.

ThecabindisputecoincidedwithaproblemofleakingsealsinthedoorsoftheA380,forcingAirbustomodifythedesignafterseveral
reportsofcabinnoisethatinonecasecausedaSingaporeAirlinesjettomakeanunscheduledlandingenroute.
AirbusChiefExecutiveFabriceBregiersaidapermanentsolutionwouldbeimplementedstarting,inthecaseofQatarAirways,withits
fourthaircraftwhichisduelaterthisyear.
Thefirstthreeaircraftfortheairlinewouldhaveaninterimfixthatwouldpreventanyleaks,hesaid.
Airbushasdesignedanewplateforthedoorframesandispreparingtoinstallthemonceithassafetycertification.
"Ithasnothingtodowithsafetybutintermsofcomfortthisisnotacceptable.Wehadtofindafix.Thefinalfixhasbeenflownand
validatedtechnically,"Bregiersaid.
BregieralsosaidAirbuswouldbereadytohandoverthefirstA350planetolaunchcustomerQatarAirwaysbyendyear.
