INTRODUCTION:

The pedal powered hacksaw set up, has a simple

mechanism, as by pedalling the wheel, rotary
motion is converted into the To and Fro motion of
the cutting tool (hacksaw). The rotary motion is
converted in to linear motion by crank and pinion
arrangement.

The size and shape of this setup is similar to cycle.

It is like a cycle is added with a bed for cutting a
work piece. As it required very low
pedalling power it can be operated by very low
power.

WORKING PRINCIPLE:
The principle of pedal power hacksaw, is to change circulatory motion
or cycling motion into translatory motion with the help of metal
connecting rod .

1. The working medium adopted is Mechanical power.

2. The machine work without the help of electricity.
3. The Rotary motion of pedaling operation performed to our required on
cutting the job.
4. The work piece is clamped on the work table using suitable clamping
device like vice.
5. After clamping, by pedaling the cutting operation takes place on the
work piece.
6. After machining the work piece is removed and cleaned.

HACKSAW:

A hacksaw is a fine-tooth hand saw with a blade

held under tension in a frame, used for cutting
materials such as metal or plastics. Hand-held
hacksaws consist of a metal arch with a handle,
usually a pistol grip, with pins for attaching a narrow
disposable blade.

A screw or other mechanism is used to put the thin

blade under tension. The blade can be mounted
with the teeth facing toward or away from the
handle, resulting in cutting action on either the push
or pull stroke.

BLADES:

Blades are available in standardized lengths, usually 10

or 12 inches for a standard hand hacksaw. "Junior"
hacksaws are half this size. Powered hacksaws may use
large blades in a range of sizes, or small machines may
use the same hand blades.

The blade chosen is based on the thickness of the

material being cut, with a minimum of three teeth in the
material. As hacksaw teeth are so small, they are set in a
"wave" set.

HACKSAW BLADE

Handle:
There are three types of Hacksaw Handle used:

There are few types of fabrication methods that are done on the
machine. They are as follows:

Arc cutting.
Welding
Drilling
Turning
Grinding

FURTHER OPERATIONS:
Cleaning
Assembling

MACHINING OPERATIONS:
In this project it is used to cut the raw material such as plates, rod.
This is done by arc cutting machine.
DRILLING:
Drilling is used to produce holes in objects. In this project the pipes
and plates required the holes for making assembly. These holes
are done by vertical type drilling machine.
FINE GRINDING:
It is nothing but a grinding process, which is done as smooth with
fine grains. It is done by convention grinding machine.

WELDING:
It is the process, which is used to join two, is more similar materials as
well as dissimilar materials. This is done by gas welding process.

TURNING:
It is used in this project to make the groove on the both sides of top
cover plate. This is done by conventional lathe.
FURTHER OPREATIONS:
CLEANING
It is the operation to clean the all machined parts without burrs, dust
and chip formals. By meaning the parts they are brightened and good
looking.
ASSEMBLING
It is the operation, its deals with the assembling of various parts
produced by above operations.

APPLICATIONS OF PEDAL POWERED HACKSAW:

1. In a furniture making industry at production department it is widely
used.
2. Cutting performs in all types of industries.
3. This machine applied in carpentry shops and plumbing works.

ADVANTAGES:
1. No need electricity.

2. More efficient
3. Power can be easily transmission.
4. Less loss in transmission.
5. Time saving as compared to simple hacksaw
6. Comfortable then ordinary hacksaw.

LIMITATIONS:
1. Leads to physical ill.
2. High thick wood cannot be cut.
3. Time consuming as compared to electrical power hacksaw.
4. Not fit for heavy production.
5. Its totally manually operated.
6. Without human effort it is not operated.
