History and Modernization[edit]

Emirates. (1999)

In 2004, Shaheen Air International (SAI) became Shaheen Air and the airline
introduced a new livery and corporate website. The airline was founded by Khalid
Mehmood Sehbai (Late) who was the airline's first chairman. At first the airline
introduced nationwide flights to countrywide destinations. The airline introduced
many different flights mainly from Karachi, Pakistan to Quetta, Pakistan.
The Governor ofBalochistan said that the improvement of air links were also
discussed in the ongoing talks between Pakistan and Iran and he offered the

management of Shaheen Air to operate Quetta-Zahidan flights. Initially Shaheen Air

International operated eight flights to Karachi-Quetta and Quetta-Lahore. The airline
later decided to operate flights from Quetta to Islamabad.
On 22 May 2004, the Civil Aviation Authority stopped all flights of Shaheen Air as it
owed millions of rupees in debt to the CAA. On May 25, 2004, Shaheen Air was
cleared of charges by the CAA to resume its domestic and international operations.
The clearance letter was issued by CAA following receipt of the payment from
Shaheen Air International towards payment of the outstanding dues and funds.
Today, Shaheen Air has about twenty aircraft and is one of the fastest growing
airlines in Pakistan. It is Pakistan's second national carrier next to the flag
carrier, PIA.In its international operations, Shaheen Air also operates
between Pakistan and numerous destinations in theMiddle East. Shaheen Air has
started flight operations to Riyadh with three different routes from
Pakistan.[2] Shaheen Air is now operating flights also for Dammam.
Shaheen Air started its own maintenance repair organization (MRO) by the name
of Shaheen Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Services (SEAMS) which aims to
provide maintenance services to Shaheen Air as well as other regional and
international airlines. Apart from giving engineering maintenance support it also
provides Air worthiness Management services with engineers from SEAMS working
on behalf of Shaheen Air.
The word "shaheen" means "eagle" in Urdu.

Services[edit]

In cabin[edit]
Shaheen Air operates a fleet of Boeing 737-400, Airbus A320-200 and Airbus A330300 aircraft. The Boeing 737s are in an all economy class layout while the A330-300
feature a mixed Business and Economy cabin.
Shaheen Air publishes its own in-house inflight magazine called "Parwaz" (Urdu for
"Flight"). Also all passengers have the facility to choose Urdu/English newspapers
and magazines on all domestic and international flights. Free of charge publications
are also often distributed among the passengers, promoting an aspect of socio-

corporate responsibility. These publications, targeting social events, were until

recently written by the group's chairman, Khalid M. Sehbai.

Ground handling[edit]
The airline uses a number of ground handling companies within Pakistan as well at
its oversea operations. Shaheen Airport Services (SAPS) took exclusive ground
handling operations of the airline in 2009 for all airports the airline operated from
within Pakistan. Dnata also signed a contract with the airline to provide any
additional services to the airline for all airports outside Pakistan.

E-Ticketing[edit]
Passengers have the ability to pre-book any flight on the airline's website to any
domestic route operated by the airline. Passengers can book online and pay at their
nearest booking office. The passenger will be given an e-ticket instead of the
standard paper booking ticket.[3]

E-Check-in[edit]
Passengers may check-in between 180 to 45 minutes prior to flight departure. This
may be done over the counter or at the lounge within the airport. Self-service kiosks
are also available at Jinnah International Airport. Passengers will automatically be
given a computer generated booking number and assigned baggage tag.[3]

Cargo operations[edit]
Shaheen Air Cargo is a division of Shaheen Air International that was established in
1993, soon after the inception of the airline. Shaheen Air provides special services
for sending small consignments which are time sensitive in nature. Other services
include: Perishable Cargo, Live Animals, Valuable Cargo, Special Cargo as well as
