Breaking Ties
The US had wanted Cuba to be a democracy
but in january 1961, the US cut their ties with
Cuba.

The US had broke their ties with Cuba and
once this happened, Cuba had become allies
with the Soviets.

The Bay of Pigs Disaster


Backed by the U.S government, a group of
Cuban exiles were allowed by President John
Kennedy to invade Cuba.

This U.S government wanted this invasion to
succeed but would not aid the Cubans during
the process with air support.

With no air support the Cubans had failed to
invade Cuba and were captured and killed by
the Cuban Army.

The Missile Crisis


The Soviets moved missiles to Cuba to be able
to strike the United states at any time.

The U.S couldn't allow the Soviets to obtain
such an advantage so they formed a blockade.

After a short time period, the Soviets
dismantled their missiles and stopped the U.S
from attacking Cuba.

Castros Retirement
In February of 2008 Fidel Castro had
announced that he could no longer be the
president of Cuba.

Once Fidel had stepped down, his brother had
taken his place as the 21st president of Cuba.

Cubans Win Small Freedoms


In February of 2008 there was a UN meeting
where Felipe Prez Roque signed an
international covenant.

This Covenant allowed Cubans more political
and civil rights in Cuba. This Covenant assured
everyone more freedom.

Cuba Moves Toward New Leader


April 19,2011 Jose Ramon Machado became
the second highest position in communist
party.

Once he was appointed, Jose had made it
legal for Cubans to buy and sell cars while also
owning businesses.

Pope Makes Long-Awaited Visit


Pope Benedict XVI visited cuba on march 26,
2012. After years of tension between church
and cuban government.

Pope Visits Cuba Continued


People from all over attended the Mass in
Santiago de Cuba. This eased the tension
between the U.S and Cuba.

Exit Visa Requirement Is Dropped


Policy states that on January 13, 2013 cubans
could leave the country and only need a valid
passport.

No Visa Requirement Continued


The biggest problem with this was Cubans can
stop people from leaving cuba for defense
and national security.

Cuba Resumes Diplomatic Relations


With U.S.
After Alan Gross was released after 5 years of
imprisonment the U.S. the tides had started to
turn.

Resuming Diplomatic Relations Continued


President Barack Obama announced that the
U.S. would resume full diplomatic relations with
Cuba.

How might the relationship between Cuba and the U.S. be


changing? In your opinion, is this good or bad?

The Relationship may be changed if the U.S


frees Cuba from the Economic Embargo that
the U.S has on them.

This is good because it creates a new ally for
the United States and will relieve tension
between the countries.

The Near Future


I believe that the two countries will become
allies and help each other economically and
politically.
