Timeline and Course Description:
In the third year course, the class will be conducted in the target language. The four
skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking continue to be the focus of the language.
Building vocabulary and increasing the complexity of grammatical structure are
emphasized. Each semester the textbook Buen Viaje covers 4 chapters, for a total of 8
chapters for the year. Spanish III is still considered an advance course therefore in
addition to the textbook and workbook, students will be studying selected readings from
the AP authors. The stories and poems are challenging, but with class discussions and
readings at home, the student can achieve success. The knowledge of other cultures,
connections to other disciplines, comparisons between languages and cultures, and
community interaction all contribute to and enhance the communicative language
learning experience, communication skills are the primary focus of language acquisition.
General Methods of Assessment and Grade Calculation:
The student is evaluated through Unit Exams (3 weeks) vocabulary/grammar quizzes,
homework, classwork activities, listening activities, essays, speaking activities, AP author
testing and special projects when time allowed during the year. The calculations are:

Average Amount of Homework:
Each student should study daily all new vocabulary introduced and new verb conjugation.
Homework assignments from the text, teacher made worksheets or workbook is for the
purpose of re-teaching and reinforcing work studied in class. Assignments per week
generally vary from 2-3 times a week, depending on the amount of work covered in class.
Most AP readings are read at home at night to prepare for class discussions and grade
evaluations. Some other AP stories will be read aloud in class to practice reading
comprehension and pronunciation of the language.

All assignments, notes, handouts, activities, prompts, compositions, etc. should be dated
on the top right corner in Spanish
Classroom Rules and Procedures:
1. All students are expected to obey the discipline expectations and rules set by
Clear Lake High School.
a. Be on time for class. Students who are late are required to go to tardy
station to obtain a tardy pass.
b. NO candy, gum, food or drinks in the classroom.
c. NO personal use of electronic devices: cell phones, Ipods, etc. Finishing
work early does not imply electronics will be used for gaming,texting or
emailing. Phones will be collected and turned into office.
2. Maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect between teacher and student
including respect for the thoughts, opinions, and property of others.
3. Arrive prepared for class (tablet/book/workbook), ready to participate with
homework completed.
4. Listen and participate in class activities. It is expected that students speak
Spanish during class. Do not socialize, speak English, or sleep!

5. Academic honesty is expected on all assessments and assignments. Comparing


answers immediately before an assignment is due is considered cheating. Do
your own work at all times.
Absence and Make-Up Work Policy:
Upon returning from an absence from school, it is the students responsibility to inquire
about and complete all missed work.
If a test is missed, the test must be taken the day the student returns to school. This will
be made up during class. Tests are assigned at least a week in advance, students will
be responsible for taking the test on the scheduled day even if he/she is absent the day
beforeAny assignments that were due during a students absence are due on the day
the student returns to class.
Prearranged Absences: Students who leave early or miss class for official school
business are expected to check with the teacher prior to the absence to get class work
or homework.

Miscellaneous:
Tutorials will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays immediately after school 2:30-3:10 and
Wednesdays by appt.
Homework is due at the beginning of class any work not turned in at that time will be
considered late.
