Student Responsibilities
Make-up Policy: Because of
the interactive nature of this
course, in-class activities and
homework cannot be made
up due to absence. Debates
cannot be made up for any
reason.
Attendance: In order for this course to be a success, it is essential that all students
are present every day. Students in EH 346 must follow the English Departments
overall attendance policy, which requires you to be present at 75% of class
meetings. This means that you may miss no more than seven class meetings. Upon
your eighth absence, you have exceeded the maximum absences allowed and
will receive an F for the course. This policy begins the first day of class.
Tardiness: It is disruptive to be tardy to class, so please avoid being tardy. If you do
arrive late, it is your responsibility to notify me of your attendance by handing in a
dated, signed note at the end of class. Otherwise, you may be recorded as
absent for that class. If you arrive while a speech or debate is in progress, please
wait for the speech/debate to end before entering the classroom.
Civility Statement: You are expected to attend class fully prepared with
appropriate materials and all homework completed. You are expected to treat
your peers and me with respect at all times. Please avoid disruptive or distracting
behavior, especially during debates and student presentations.
Personal Electronic Communication Devices: I encourage you to use personal
electronic communication devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc.) for
learning purposes. However, your use of these devices should not disrupt the
learning of other students. If your use of PECDs becomes disruptive or distracting,
you will be asked to not use them during class unless specifically instructed to do
so.
