Latin American Music Poem

By: Casey Marshall

Music in Latin America has a rich history

With many different genres, which have brought their sound to victory.
With artists speaking Portuguese and Spanish language,
It has also incorporated African slaves sent to the area,
Which has looked to work to their advantage.
The music makes you want to get up and dance,
And even if you arent from their culture, they give everyone the fair chance.
With salsa, merengue, bossa nova, and tango evolving
Latin pop, rock, jazz, and reggaeton style derived,
Where the people realized their problems were soon to be solved.
Because this music is known to make people happy,
You get lost in the moment, the sounds, where things are just snappy.
It also includes Francophone countries and territories of the Caribbean and South America as well,
Showing this music is open minded, and can be sung in French just swell.
There is one especially unique thing about this music in all Latin Americans countries,
That in every country it specializes in a different aspect of music,
Showing the diversity of its form of rhythm, large and chunky.
For instance, Argentina is well known for the tango, which is famous worldwide,
Deriving from the 19th century, and has been liked by the worlds all different sides.
Mexico is known as one of the largest musically diverse counties on earth,
Claiming each area in the country is unique and different,
Its music coming in many different directions and spurts.
One well known artist is Marc Anthony,
Famous in the United States, with songs called Vivir Mi Vada, You Sang To Me,
And the most popular, Rain On Me.
To become composed, songs usually include a variety of percussion instruments,

The whistle, trumpets, maracas are ones you hear and know they are from this genre in an instance.
With Western influence, other instruments were brought to the genre too,
The guitar, harps, and violins bringing spice in the rhythm and blues.
One thing most people dont know is where the music really includes,
South and Central America are what people associate, but the Caribbean is too!
Many different characteristics make up Latin American music,
African rhythm, Spanish Decima, Syncopation, and Call and Response are often fit into a songs rubric.
In the 16th century, this music was what was developing the Latin American dancing,
When Americo Vespucci returned to Spain talking about native people performing intricated dancing,
It sure did have all the people in the Latin American countries ranting!
Throughout the years, it is shown that the diversity of Latin American music is extremely large,
It will continue to grow and be apart of peoples lives,
In years to come, when the nations ruled by an entirely new Sarge!
