You Are the Tour Guide

Study the map of Fishermans Warf in San Francisco. Imagine you are a tour guide, and need to direct
out-of-town tourists to their destinations. Remember: when giving directions, clarity is key! If you dont
plainly state what the tourist must do to reach their desired target, they will be lost! Thus, you should not
say go straight, as that is a relative term. Rather, you should say Go west on 4th street, and turn north
onto A street. Write your responses as you would say them verbally.
Tourist 1: So I am at Pier 33, and I just got back from a trip to Alcatraz. What an experience! Now I
would like to visit the Victorian Park. How do I get there?
Walk southwest to the embarcadero then walk northwest to Jefferson street then continue going west
on Jefferson street for 5 blocks to Height street. The park will be on the southwest corner of the
intersection.
Tourist 2: I thought I would enjoy riding a bike around San Francisco, but there are too many hills
around here. Now I am all the way over on Lombard St. and Grant Ave., and would love to be able to see
the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park before it gets dark.
Starting on the corner of Grant and Lombard go west for 3 blocks to Columbus Ave. Then walk
northwest on Columbus Ave. for 5 blocks to Beach Street. Then go west a half block to height street and
go north one block to height street peer, which is the entrance to San Francisco Maritime National
Historical Park
Tourist 3: I am sitting in the lobby of the Sheraton. Where should I go to get some Seafood or Crab
Pots?
Exit Sheraton from the corner of Mason and beach street then walk one block West to Taylor Street.
From Taylor go north for one and a half blocks. The Crab Pots and sea food will be on the west side of
the street.
Tourist 4: There has been a heist at the Wax Museum! Someone has stolen the Michael Jackson model,
and have headed south on Mason St! If the police station next to the visitor center on Jefferson St., what
would be the best route to intercept these dastardly thieves as they head south?
Exit visitor center on height street go south to beach street. Head east for one half block to Columbus
ave. Then head south east for approximately 5 blocks to mason street.
Tourist 5: I need to do some shopping. First, I need to find a pharmacy to buy some medicine. Then, I
need to buy some fishing gear from Fish Alley. After that, I need to buy my cruise tickets from the Blue
and Gold Ticket booth. If I am at the Holiday Inn on Jones St., what is the best route to hit all of these
stops in that order?
From the holiday inn exit on Jone street and walk south to north point street. Walk east two blocks to
mason street. North point center is on the corner of Mason Street and North Point Street. From the
pharmacy exit to Mason street. Head two blocks to Jefferson street. From Jefferson street walk west for
three blocks to Leavenworth street. Head north on Leavenworth for one half block the street ends.
Follow the alley to the west for one half block to fish alley. Reverse path back to Leavenworth and
