Santiago AVID Saturday School Intervention

In order to provide necessary intervention for AVID students failing or in danger

of failing classes, students will be required to attend Saturday school at Santiago
High School.
AVID students will be assigned a Saturday school if they have a D or F in an A-G
course (math, science, history, English). Students will continue attend Saturday
school until they are passing all of their classes with a C or better. A student can
become exempt from a Saturday school if their teacher signs the form indicating
that they are passing the class.
AVID teachers will assign Saturday school contracts based on Q pulse reports
that show students that have below a 70% in their courses.
During the Saturday school, students will be expected to work on homework and
classwork for the courses they are failing. An AVID teacher will facilitate the
Saturday school and college tutors may be present to provide additional help and
support.
The goal of this program is not to punish students for poor grades, but to
intervene and provide support to students that need it. Our goal is to prepare
students for college, and that starts with success in their high school courses.
