Needs Assessment
1.
There should be a program that contains four classes (12 credits) that will
guide the student through the program with hands on training and
certification upon completing the program.

Needs Assessment
4.
Explain the gap analysis between what is available and what should
be available.
Instructional Goal
What should the learners be able to do after successfully completing
this instructional plan?
The learners should be able to successfully complete the program,
become certified, and gain employment in the healthcare field as a
nurse aide.
Performance-Based Objectives
A audience Adults, male or female who are at least 18
years old and possess a high school diploma or GED
B behavior Serious students who want a degree and
certification in the healthcare field as a certified nurse aide.
C conditions There will be evaluations before and after
each class to see where each student is at with their
performance. There will also be a final exam in the last class
which determines whether or not the student passes the
program and becomes certified.
D degree of accomplishment The students need to
accomplish 100% of the program and maintain at least a B
average in order to complete the program and become
certified.

Learner Characteristics
A college Healthcare program with 10 women and 8 men between the
ages of 20-28 years old who attend 4 core classes to become certified as
a nurse aide. Test scores of the class are 90% above average and 10%
below average. Majority of students learn through hands on training. The
learner characteristics include information about your target audience
such as:
What are the implications to your instructional plan based on these
characteristics?
Since 10% of students are below average there is a chance that these
students may not make it through the rest of the program based on test
scores.
Learning Context
Delivery Modality
An instructor-led course will be used for the delivery
modality. According to Chhabra (2014), there are
numerous benefits to an instructor-led course. These
benefits include:
Easy access to experienced instructors
Participating in a classroom environment
Hands on experience
The availability to work in a lab environment with real
life experiences
Instructional Strategies
The material in the first course focuses on the
principles of healthcare for the non-healthcare
student. Emphasis will be placed on the general
duties of the position, the requirements to
become certified, and the resources available to
the student during the course.
The material in the second course will cover the
reading, research, and pre-tests of the program.
This will get the student prepared for the hands
on training that will follow this class. The pretests will allow the student to see what he or
she can expect from the actual certification test
that will be given in the final class

Formative Assessment
According to West Virginia Department of Education (2014)
there are many formative assessments to use during education
which include:
Observations Can help the facilitator to see what the
learners do and do not know
Discussion Can tell the facilitator about student learning and
understanding of the basic concepts
Peer/Self Assessments Create a learning community within
the classroom
Learning/Response Logs Learning logs are where the
student reflects on what they have learned and response logs
are a good way to examine the students thoughts
Constructive Quizzes Are used to monitor learning and
adjust instruction as needed

Evaluation Strategies
A student survey will be administered towards the end of
the program to help evaluate the program from the
students perspective. This survey will consist of five
questions which have answers such as 5-Strongly Agree, 4Slightly Agree, 3-Neutral, 2- Slightly Disagree, and 1Strongly Disagree. The questions will consist of 1.The
program will help me gain employment in the healthcare
field, 2. I am satisfied with the course, 3. I am satisfied
with the knowledge the instructor possessed, 4. I would
recommend this course to friends/family, and 5. I believe
my expectations were met with this course? A comments
section will also be available at the end of the survey.

Outcome Review
According to Mertler (2001), a scoring rubric is a specific
type of scoring with pre-established performance criteria. A
scoring rubric will be in place to help examine the design
goals, the performance-based objectives, and show how
the learning outcomes were achieved. There will be an
area where the instructor lists the criteria that is expected
of the students to complete throughout the course, an area
for self and peer reviews to see where the students are in
the course, and there will be an opportunity where
students can sample the scoring rubric on practice
assignments to see the potential outcome.

Recommendations
The program was added to the college because of a desire
of the students to fulfill a position at a local healthcare
setting that required a college education and certification.
Based on the outcome it is recommended that this course
remains an option at the college because the healthcare
field is continually growing and the need for healthcare
positions to be filled are increasing. There was more
success and higher graduation rates in this program than
expected. From what can be expected this course will
continue to remain a desire of students and can even be
expected to require expanding so that more students are
able to join and not have to sit on the waiting list.
