Velocity And Acceleration Concept Summary Assignment

Two types of models:

Constant Velocity Model
Constant Acceleration Model
Statement of key concept: Constant Velocity Model- A constant velocity model
helps us describe the constant velocity of an object. Constant velocity is equal
position change in equal time intervals; (for every second that passes, the object
travels the same amount of distance/position).
Elaborate Constant velocity: To know what a constant velocity model is, you
need to know what velocity is. Velocity is the change in position over change in
time, with a direction (delta X over delta t). A constant velocity model helps us
determine how position and time relate. If the change in velocity is over a very
short period of time, we can still use this model. The surface the object is
traveling on must be flat and straight; it can not be a bumpy road or a road that
changes direction.
Mathematical equations:
- x = vt ( x=vt + x naught) 0R x= vt , since x divided by t= v

Graphical Representation:

The velocity of the graph will be a straight and horizontal line since the rate of
change of the velocity is zero. Therefore, the acceleration of the object is going to
have no acceleration, (the acceleration will be zero). The graph of the position (x)
vs time (t) graph is linear, since there is equal position change in equal time
intervals.
Diagrammatic representation: (Constant Velocity model )

Exemplify: There are many real world situations where you would be required to
use the constant velocity model to figure something out. One example of a
situation where you have to use this is when a car travels with cruise control on (
speed control). Also if u need to find the velocity of a car moving on a straight
road at a constant velocity.

This data represents constant velocity and a constant velocity model because the
position changes at a constant rate of 100 m every second.

Statement of key concept: Constant Acceleration Model- A constant Acceleration

model helps us describe the constant acceleration of an object. Constant
Acceleration is when an object changes its velocity by a constant amount each
second ( velocity change by the same amount each second)
Elaborate (Constant Acceleration): To know what a Constant Acceleration
model is, you need to know what acceleration is. Acceleration is v divided by t.
It is how the motion of an object changes measured with respect to a reference
frame. A constant acceleration model could ( for example ) represent a crate being
dropped from an airplane, or a rock bring dropped from the top of a cliff.
Mathematical Equations to represent Constant Acceleration:
-

v= at ( v= at + v naught )

x= 1/2at2+v0t + x0 or x = 1/2at2 + vot

2ax= v2-v02

Exemplify ( Constant Acceleration Model)

You can apply this model in many real life situations. One situation would be like
the diagram, where a ball is thrown off a building and is in free fall. Another
example would be if you need to find the acceleration of an object in free fall.
Differentiate: The domain of Constant velocity model is

1. Constant Velocity reference frame

2. Object has constant velocity
3. Object is treated as a particle or point mass
4. Non relativistic speed (V <<< speed of light ; V is much less than speed of
light)
The domain of the Constant acceleration model is

2. Object has constant acceleration
3. Object is treated as a particle or point mass
4. Non relativistic speed (V <<< speed of light ; V is much less than speed of
light)
The constant velocity model would not be applicable for example when an object
is falling in free fall downwards because its not a constant change. This model
would be applicable for example for cars traveling down a straight road at a
constant speed. The constant acceleration model would not be applicable when a
car is changing its speed as it drives. This model would be applicable when a
something is falling down since gravity = acceleration. These scientific models are
related to each other because they both describe movement and motion ( constant
movement). A common misconception is that that acceleration is thought of as
only speeding up. This misconception is false because acceleration could also be
slowing down, its a change of motion. Also another misconception is that if a car is
moving at a high speed, then the car has a high acceleration. This is false because if
the car travels at a high speed ( ex 90 mph constantly ), the car has an acceleration
of zero. A high acceleration would be if the car went from 0 mph to 90 mph in a
few seconds.

Implication/Application: The implication of the constant velocity model is that

there is zero acceleration, while the implication of the constant acceleration model
is that the rate of change in velocity is constant and therefore linear. The graph of

the position vs time graph for constant acceleration is going to be quadratic. A

sample problem you can solve for Constant Velocity and Constant Acceleration is
down below. For constant acceleration, you can also do an object in dropped from a
given height, and it asks for you to solve for its speed as it reaches the ground.
This scientific model relates to a current event in my life by driving to school or
anywhere everyday. When you drive there is change in direction, traffic, speed
bumps, and many other factors that will cause the car to not have a constant
velocity. There are times however where there are times the vehicle moves with a
constant velocity. When i drive to school there are rarely any times when the
vehicle has a constant velocity. Below are sample problems.
