Section Four: Differentiating Instruction through Technology

There are many levels a student learns in a classroom. Not every one of our students lean
at the same pace and the same speed. By using technology in the classroom to differentia
instruction in the classroom we are allowing students to learn at their own speed and to the best
of their abilities. Through the use of technology the teacher can make sure all their students are
getting the education that they all need to get.
Technology to Differentiate Instruction
Digital Media digital media can play an important role in the classroom Making the information
being taught become more interactive allowing students to to each clips or view and listen to the
information though video clips or interactive learning apps. In the classroom, I will use the use
of media clips by finding interactive videos that will allow the students to lean and interact with
the material being taught. I will be working with children that have some special need or another,
and most young children like movement the use of color and music to help them learn in a
classroom setting. Using such resources allows students to visually see what is being taught and
become more interactive in the learning they are doing in the classroom. Studies indicate that
students retain approximately
20 percent of what they see, 30 percent of what they hear, and 50 percent of what they
see and hear. (Gunter). The use of digital media reaches to all the different learning styles, in
one source. This allows the diversity of the classroom to be reached by this material. The use of
digital media allows students to be engaged in the material. This is important to the children I
would be working with because, they are so young, and need engagement to help them focus and
learn material.
KWHL Chart this is a tool I would use in the classroom in the begning of the year and
throughout the year to measure the progress of my students in what they already know. In using

this chart I will better identify with what needs to be taught in the classroom. This will also
measure the childs progress on learning certain aspects of what is being taught in the classroom.
With the use of this chart students will have a visual on what they have learned and what
objectives they may need a little extra assistance on. Students like adults like to see they are
making progress on a goal and tracking that progress. I did not use this technology in my raft
cards.
Digital Media Presentation. Presentations such as a power point will be sued in the
classroom, to make interactive presentations, along with the digital media. PowerPoint This
would allow students to interact and be able to become engaged in the learning process. The nice
thing with PowerPoint, it moves at the pace of the students I can pause, and spend more time on
a slide if I need to. As a teacher I can create a PowerPoint with the classroom material that is
being taught about in the classroom.
There are many pros to the use of technology, the biggest being, that the students
become more engaged in the classroom. Another pro as mentioned above is that the Using
technology and integrating it into the classroom, allows one to reach many different learning
styles without having to reteach, the lesson over and over again. By integrating technology
teachers are keeping students in w ith what is important in the real world in becoming up to date
with the technology that is used in collages and the workforce. This allows students to be able to
keep up to date and stay engaged with technology.
One of the Cons of integrating technology is time, it takes time and effort to
prepare the lessons and make sure that all the material is covered. Teachers are less involved in
the lessons that are being taught, and the use of digital media and other technology is taking over

the classroom. With the use of technology homeschooling is becoming more popular and this
means student interaction is lower and more students are not socializing with other children.
Integrating technology is important to making our classroom successful for all. It
allows all students to feel comfortable in the classroom. Creating an environment for learning,
and for engagement.
