TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

Please find attached, my application form for mitigation pertaining to one (1) academic module and
my final year project, which I was expected to complete and submit by _____(date). The module in
discussion is __________which is a level three module in the BEng Mechanical Engineering
program.
The reasons for my inability to complete the required amount of credits over the 2007/2008 year are
as follows: For the past ten (10) months I have been acting in a higher position at my place of work. This
is a supervisory position with key responsibilities centered on operational and maintenance
activities aimed at preserving the integrity and safety of a Natural Gas pipeline network. The
department comprises of a team of fifteen (15) persons who usually work long hours and
sometimes twelve hour (12hr) shifts.

At present I am involved in planning and executing three (3) construction/modification

projects for the department. This work involves all aspects of design and procurement of
material, equipment and contract labour, in accordance to the companys tendering process
and guidelines. This also requires me to work extra hours.

I am in the process of building my first home (approx. 75 % complete). Though I have

engaged the services of a contractor for the construction works, I have been involved in all
material procurement, quantity surveying and quality control aspects of the works.

Based on the above, the time that was available to me for studies over the past year was minimal.
Hence I was unable to submit the assignment for the sole module I have outstanding (MEX 301) and
my individual final year project. These are the only two (2) aspects of the BEng program that I
have to successfully complete in order to achieve my degree.
I am therefore requesting permission to submit the assignment for_____ (subject name) for
September 2008 assessment (this module is not assessed by written exam). Also, since the Final
Year Project usually takes about eight (8) months, I would like to be granted an extension to
complete the same by_______.
I enrolled with your institution in ______, since then I have been successful in all the modules I
attempted and have been consistent in my progress with respect to completing the required credits.
