1. The sand pouring cylinder was filled with clean sand so that, the level of the sand in the cylinders within about 10 mm from the top. The initial weight, (W) of the cylinder plus sand and this weight were maintained constant throughout the test for which the calibration is used. 2. The sand of volume was allowed equal to that of the calibrating container to run out of the cylinder by opening the shutter. The shutter was closed and the cylinder was placed on the glass sand take place the cylinder close the shutter and the cylinder was removed carefully.
ii) Determine the Bulk Density of Sand.
3. The volume (V) of the container filled with water to the brim was determined. 4. The sand pouring cylinder was placed on the calibrating container and make sure that constant weight, (W) was maintained. Next, the shutter was opened and the sand was permitted to run the container. Moreover, when no further movement of sand was seen, the shutter was closed, the pouring cylinder was removed, and its weight, (W). was measured.
iii) Determine of dry Density of Soil in Place.
5. A level surface on soil was prepared to be tested. A hole cylindrical in shape of dimension about 125 mm and 125 mm deep were dug out. All the excavated soil was placed inside the pail or tray, then its weight, (Ww). Thus, its moisture contain was determined using the oven drying method.
