Wire Fibula Brooch

Add some pizzazz to your Wire Fibula Brooch! This is your opportunity to get creative and add a variety of different
design elements. Refer to the Sheet Fibula Brooch step-by-step for a basic tutorial on how to create a catch and pin
brooch out of sheet.

Steps
1. Select a metal alloy wire, such as sterling or brass, with a thickness of 1618
gauge and about 7" in length. Tip: Thinner wire works better for use on
lighter fabrics, thicker wire is good for thicker, knitted fabrics like sweaters.
2. Start forging the wire with a low-dome chasing hammer on an anvil or steel
bench block. Turn the wire as you hammer to create an overall tapered
round-end that will be the pin.
3. With a needle file, smooth out the wire and then use coarse and fine
sandpaper to finish.
4. Start a bend using a pair of round-nose pliers. Create at least two curls,
depending on your design. Make some additional indentations that will
act as nesting places for your beads.
5. To add different design elements, just slip the beads onto the wire.
Create a catch by bending the wire with round-nose pliers.
