What is sleep?
Sleep is a natural
state of bodily rest
observed throughout
the animal kingdom. It
is common to all
mammals and birds,
and is also seen in
many reptiles,
amphibians and fish
Stages of sleep

• Rapid eye
movement
• Non rapid eye
movement.
Sleep timing:
Newborn 18 hours
1-12 months 14–18 hours
1-3 years 12-15 hours
3-5 years 11-13 hours
5-12 years 9-11 hours
Adolescents 9-10 hours
Adults 6-8 hours
Pregnant women 8 (+) hours
Snoring:

diabetes .

associated with increased
mortality . Some candidate
causes for this include
depression, and cancer-
related fatigue. In terms of
prevention, sleeping around
7 hours per night is optimal
for health and a sustained
reduction may predispose to
ill-health
Conclusion:
