There is a long list of problems that are deeply entrenched in this country since the inception, but the most grave among them is illiteracy. It is so pervasive and disastrous that it provides a breeding ground for other thousands of problems.
In fact, it is a hydra-headed menace that has besieged that
society of Pakistan from every corner. Illiteracy has proved to be the base of all other social, political and economic collapses. As Socrates says, Knowledge is virtue and all the vice is ignorance. It is a worrying situation that since decades all successive governments have turned a blind eye to this problem. As a result, today more than 40% of population is uneducated and the educated 58% even included those who only know how to write their names. Moreover, the quality of an education is another serious problem when the education system is divided in to different classes depending on peoples social and financial background. This nation is locked in a self-serving cycle of people of illiteracy where poor education of one generation ensures the worse batch of teachers for the next.
The flawed attitude of successive governments as well as of
whole nation to educate their people has led this country to moral decline and social evils. Therefore, this is high time to understand the importance of education that would help to clear the way for welfare, development and prosperity of collective struggle of society coupled with state institutions to launch an emergency campaign against this disease and curse that has become rampant affecting every corner of this country.
