LESSON PLAN
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
-
Students will be able to recall a real event in their lives and translate the event onto paper
through creative writing.
Students will be able to express their real events through memory recall and also
embellish upon their stories with false, creative additions.
Students will be able to successfully create a plot line for their work of writing.
The instructor will ask students to think about two real events that had a conflict/problem
that was memorable to them, whether it was memorable in a good way or bad way.
The instructor will hand out the Brainstorming Worksheet (Appendix A) and ask students
to fill it out in much detail.
After students finish their Brainstorming Worksheet successfully, the instructor will
divide the class into partners or groups, depending on the size and atmosphere of the
classroom.
The instructor will hand out the Story Sharing Questions Sheet (Appendix B) to the
students and have each group/pair answer the questions to each other.
The instructor should walk around the classroom to help facilitate Story Sharing
Discussion and make sure all students are contributing to the conversation in the best way
possible.
In the groups/pairs, classmates will help each other to pick their best story to use for the
rest of the lesson plan.
The instructor will hand out the Plot Outline Worksheet (Appendix C)
Students will complete the plot outline as detailed as possible, relating to their true story.
The instructor will pass out the Narrative Creative Writing Sheet (Appendix D) and have
students write their true story, using their Brainstorming Worksheet and Plot Outline
Worksheet as aids.
The instructor will encourage students to write creatively, meaning that students can add
false or creative interpretations to their story to make it more exciting, comedic, or
dramatic.
The instructor will walk around the classroom and be available to students who have any
trouble in grammar, sentence structure, or vocabulary. However, the instructor should not
give creative ideas or approaches. Instead, the instructor should motivate and encourage
students to use their creative minds and own individual selves.
EXTENDED ACTIVITIES:
PRESENTATION:
-
After all students finish their creative writing assignment, they may read their stories
aloud in a classroom presentation setting, or in groups or pairs, depending on time
restraints and the aura of the classroom.
ALTERNATE ENDING:
-
After all students finish their creative writing assignment, the instructor will switch the
stories with other students, so that each student has a piece of work that is not theirs.
The instructor will inform the students to read their classmates story.
The instructor will then tell the students to write their own different, alternate ending or
conclusion for their classmates story. As another extended activity, students can share
their alternate endings with the original author.
