The Bystander Effect

Objectives

To see how many people will ignore a person in need of help.


To see how many people will help the person in need of help.
To see how many people will stare at the person in need of help.

Pile of papers

Procedures
First experiment

The person will walk inside the mall and intentionally scatter the papers and her things.
A confederate will come and help her pick her things.

Second experiment

A girl is walking inside the mall, searching something on her bag and a guy running
towards her will hit her, causing her things to fall on the floor.

Third experiment

A student from a different school will walk inside the campus of another university and
will fall on the ground, making her things scattered.

Fourth experiment

A student will walk inside a canteen will suddenly faint.


Another student will try to get her wallet inside his bag neglecting the student in need of
help.

Debriefing Methods

The person who will help the experimenter will be provided with the information about
the experiment conducted.
