Animal Testing? More Like Animal Torture

Do you realize that about an estimated million animals are used every year in the United
States for animal testings? Unprotected animals by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) including
rats/mice, birds, fish, and cold-blooded reptiles, are being tested for medical uses. Animal
testing is not necessary and should be banned. Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. They are
also bad science and its very dangerous. Not just that, animal testing is very wasteful too.
There are many reasons to support that animal testing is not necessary and should be
banned. One reason is that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. The animals being tested are
being forced to do horrible activities that the animals want to resist so badly. According to the
article, Animal Testing, it states that animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to
force feeding, forced inhalation, food and infliction of burns and other wounds to study the
healing process This shows that animal testing is not necessary and should be banned because
it shows how the animals in the laboratories are being treated, which is cruel and inhumane.
Additionally, the animals being tested are not given drugs to relief from the pain. According to
the article, Animal Testing, it states The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in
2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments while given no anesthesia for
relief This quote shows that animal testing is so cruel and inhumane, they dont even give
pain relief medicines to those painful animals being tested, meaning animal testing is not
necessary and should be banned. Another example of why animal testing is cruel and inhumane
is that animals being tested usually dies after the performance is done. In the article, Animal
Testing 101, it states More than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel

chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics tests This shows very clearly that animal testing is not
necessary and should be banned because its cruel and inhumane.
Another reason why animal testing is not necessary and should be banned is because
animal testing is bad science and its dangerous. Animal testing is bad science and is dangerous
because animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test subjects, so
its not reliable. According to the article, Animal Testing, it states the anatomic, metabolic,
and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human
beings. This shows that animal testing is not necessary and should be banned because animals
dont have same cells and genes as humans and so animal testing could not be trusted at all.
Furthermore, animal testing is bad science and its dangerous because drugs that are passed by
animal tests are not truly safe and may fail on humans. According to the article, Animal
Testing, it states Animal tests on the arthritis drug Vioxx showed that it had a protective effect
on the hearts of mice, yet the drug went on to cause more than 27,00 heart attacks and sudden
cardiac deaths before being pulled from the market. This clearly shows that animal testing is not
necessary and should be banned because the drugs being tested on animals have no good effects
on humans. Instead, you can see that drugs being tested on animals could have a negative impact
on humans and therefore, is not safe at all.
The last reason why animal testing is not necessary and should be banned is because
animal testing is wasteful. One example of why animal testing is wasteful is because animal
testing is very expensive and is a waste of government research money. According to the article,
Animal Testing, it states ...the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) spends $14 billion of its
$31 billion annual budget on animal research. This shows that animal testing is not necessary
and should be banned because the government use about 45% of their money annually to use it

on animal research, and that is a very waste of money. Another example why animal testing is
wasteful is because a lot of animals lifes are being wasted. According to the article Animal
Experiments: Overview, it states Each year, more than 100 million animals-including mice,
rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds-are killed in U.S.
laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and
chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. This quote literally shows that animal testing is not
necessary and should be banned because the animal research are wasting animal lives and
animals have feelings and significant to nature, just like us humans do. So this all show that
animal testing is not necessary and should be banned, because animal testing is very wasteful.
Some people say that animal testing is necessary and shouldnt be banned because animal
testing is very effective to life-saving cures and treatments. According to the article, Animal
Testing, it states that The polio vaccine, tested on animals, reduced the global occurrence of
the disease from 350,000 cures in 1988 to 233 in 2012. Animal research has also contributed to
major advances in understanding and treating condition such as breast cancer, brain injury,
childhood leukemia, cystic fibrosis...and many others This statement shows that animal
testing is necessary and should not be banned because animal testing have contributed to many
effective, life-saving cures to humans. However, animal testing is not necessary and should be
banned. Even though that quote before shows how effective animal testing is, but the results of
animal testing dont reliably predict the results in human beings. According to the article,
Animal Testing, it states clearly that 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical
trials. This shows that animal testing is not necessary and should be banned because about 94%
drugs that people think can save animals and humans are actually not effective to life-saving
treatments for humans and is not 100% reliable.

In conclusion, animal testing is not necessary and should be banned. Animal testing is
cruel and inhumane. Its also bad science and very dangerous; and its wasteful. Other people say
that animal testing is necessary and shouldnt be banned because they would rather see animals
die than humans and, animal testing is very effective. But should animal testings really be
necessary and should we really allow it or, should we save the animals lives by banning the
necessity of animal testings? Its time to take action, guys. Instead of testing animals for medical
uses, vitro testings are available for scientists to use. Vitro testings are experiments where you
can study about the human cells in a petri dish or in glass. Vitro testing gives more reliable
results and will not waste animal lives. Additionally, it is not cruel nor is it inhumane. To sum it
up, vitro testing is not wasteful, not cruel/inhumane, and is more reliable, so vitro testings should
be used instead of animal testings.
