I. OBJECTIVE:
To be able to construct a device that protects a compressor-type appliances
such as refrigerator and air-conditioning units from in-rush current when sudden
power outage occurs.
II. PROJECT DETAILS:
The concept of our project is to construct a time-delay circuit that involves a
thyristor. In this circuit, we used the combination of the Programmable Unijunction
Transistor (PUT) and Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR). With the characteristics of
PUT, we can set the time we want by varying the values of the resistors in the
voltage divider and the charging capacitor and the resistor. When the voltage in the
charging capacitor reaches the gate-to-cathode voltage of the PUT, PUT is triggered
and current passes through anode-to-cathode and triggering the SCR as well as the
relay, turning on the appliance.

VI. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:
Setting of time while in the breadboard was really difficult because it gives
large gap compared to the computed value hence giving huge percent error.
Moreover, the time delay that is set on the breadboard got shorten when
transferred to PCB.
VII. MATERIALS USED AND COST:

IX. RECOMMENDATION:

Study the circuit carefully to avoid error.

Study the datasheet of every components.
Test all the components.
To make space consumption less, this can be put into a smaller case.
Fuse can be added to the device.
