Sample Calculation:
Part B: Reaction Between Ammonium Thiocyanate and Barium
Hydroxide
Data Collection and Observations:
o Initial Temperature: 22.0C 0.2C
o Final Temperature: 6.0C 0.2 C
o Temperature change: 6.0C-22.0C= -16.0C
o During the experiment, a pungent smell was produced. Our
group hypothesized that one of the products was ammonia
gas.

Part C: Reaction Between Iron and Copper(II) Sulfate Solution

Data Collection:
o Initial Temperature: 22C 0.2C
o Final Temperature: 27C 0.2 C
o Temperature change: 22C-27C= -5.0C
Evidence of chemical reaction:
o Color change: surface of steel turns reddish brown, while
Copper sulfate solution becomes darker, greyish blue.
o Temperature Change
Processing of results, and questions:
1. Write equations for the reactions in parts A, B, and C and classify
each reaction as either exothermic or endothermic.
