My expectations of you:
1. RESPECT: yourself, your peers, your instructor, your surroundings and materials.
2. Be on time and prepared (textbook, notebook, writing utensil, etc.) This means
you must be in your seat and ready to learn when the tardy bell rings.
3. No food, drinks, or gum, unless pre-approved with the instructor.
4. Clean up after yourself and remain seated until the bell rings.
5. Follow directions both in the lab room as well as the class room.
6. Take responsibility for your actions and learning. Hence, do your homework!
7. Follow all school and school district rules.
Grading:
Your academic grade is determined by the combining of the following scores and
scaled as follows: Chapter tests and quizzes are 20% of your grade. Labs, in class
activities and assignments equal another 30%. Homework and out of class projects
consists of an additional 30% with your final exam worth 20%. Adding those four areas
together totals 100%. The grading scale is as follows:
Grading Scale:
o A = 90 -100%,
o B = 80 90%
o C = 70 - 79%
o D = 60 69%
o F = 59% and below
Grade printouts: Will be posted next to the door every 2 weeks or you can view
your grade on infinite campus at any time starting the 2nd week of the semester.
No Cheating! If you are caught cheating you will receive a zero on the assignment,
write a letter to your parents/guardians describing your actions, and possible

administrative consequences. Any extra credit work submitted prior to and after this
infraction will be zeroed out, as in the points will be forfeited and no additional extra
credit will be offered. I also will be notifying your parents/guardians that same day.
Note: I consider copying another persons labs, or homework as cheating, as well
as using another students notes on an open note test. You are not allowed to photocopy
the text. That is a copy write infringement and against the law without the publishers
permission. Absolutely, no plagiarism! If you wish to use a quote or anothers materials,
cite it please. I have the internet, and will check authenticity.
If missing or late work is collected, the grade will only be given at a 50% value,
and that is not a sale. Students who are absent are given the same time allotment listed in
the WCSD handbook to turn in their homework, two days for one excused absence, three
days for two days excused, etc.
Classroom Procedures:
1. At the beginning of each class period, get your sponge book or spiral out and
begin solving the daily problems by responding in your daily journals. This is
a period of independent work and should be quiet! These are graded weekly.
2. You must have a pass to leave the classroom, unless you are called to the
office.
3. No students shall prevent the teacher from teaching or the students from
learning or you meet the discipline administration.
4. Applicable safety guidelines during labs and activities must be followed by
every student, absolutely no exceptions.
*** Note - If you are unsafe during a lab then you will not be allowed to
participate in future labs, your parents will be notified and a report will replace
the lab assignment. In other words, youll be doing bookwork instead.
There is a voluntary $10.00 lab fee for the year. (This helps us with labs, supplies, etc).
This really is a fun and exciting class and I believe you will enjoy science class when
your expectations as well as my expectations are both met. You can read about science in
a book but it is much more exciting and interesting when you actually participate in the
learning! I hope we all have a wonderful semester!
