Functions

By- Tessa MacPherson

Period 1/2

Linear
y=mx+b

The b value controls how high it is on the y-axis- as shown in the black and
green graphs.
The m value controls high high or steep the function is. The further the value is
from 0 the steeper it is. Closer the value is to 0 the inclination decreases- as shown
in the blue and green graphs.

Quadratic
a(x+h)^2 +k

The k value controls how high or low the function is on the y-axis- as shown in
the blue graph, it moved down 5 units.
The a value controls how wide or narrow the function is. The farther the a value
is from 0 the narrow it gets and closer it is from 0 the wider it gets- as shown in the
blue and green graphs.

Sin

In Sin2x the 2

The multiplier of x compressed the function- as shown in the blue graph.

The multiplier of sin amplifies the function making it go up on the y-axis- as shown
in the green graph.

The subtractor of x moves the function on the y-axis- as shown in the purple graph.

Cosine

The multiplier of x compressed the function- as shown in the purple graph.

The divider of x stretched the function- as shown in the orange graph.
The subtractor of x moved the function on the y-axis- as shown in the black graph.

Cubic
a(x+h)^3 +k

he a value controls how wide the function is. The closer the a value is to 0 the wid
it gets- as shown in the purple graph.
The k values moves the function on the y-axis- as shown in the orange graph.

e h value moves it left or right on the x-axis. Negative values move it right. Positive
values move it left- as shown in the black graph.

Absolute Value
a(x+h)^2 +k

The h values move it left or right on the x-axis. Positive values move it left. Negative
values move it right- as shown in the blue graph.
The a values make the function narrower or wider. The farther the number is from
0 the narrower the function gets- as shown in the green graph.
Negative a value reflect the function on the yaxis- as shown in the purple graph.
The K values move the function up or down on the y-axis- as shown in in the
purple graph.

Square Root

The h value moves the function left or right on the y-axis. Positive values move
it left.
The k value moves the function up or down on the y-axis.
Negative a values reflect the function along the x-axis.

Logarithmic
a(x+h)^2 +k

The a values make the function narrower or wider. The closer the number is from
0 the wider the function gets.
Negative a values reflect the function along the x-axis
The h value moves the graph left or right on the x-axis. Negative values move it
right.
The k value moves the function up or down on the on the y-axis

Exponential
a(x+h)^2 +k

The a value controls how wide the function is. The farther the a value is to 0
the narrower it gets- as shown in the purple graph.
The k value moves the function up or down on the y-axis- as shown in the
orange graph.
Negative a values reflect the function on the x-axis- as shown in black graph.

Rational
a*1/(x-h) +k

Negative a values reflect the function along the x-axis- as shown in the blue
graph.

e k value moves the function up or down along the y-axis- as shown in the green gra
The h value moves the function left or right along the x-axis. Negative
values move the function right- as shown in the purple graph.

Rational
a*1/(x-h)^2 +k

Negative a values reflect the function on the x-axis- as shown in the purple
graph.
The h value moves the function left or right on the x-axis. Positive values
move the function to the left- as shown in the purple graph.
The k value moves the function up or down on the y-axis- as shown in the black
graph.
