Q: A nominal distance of 30 meters was set out with a 30 m steel tape from a mark on the top of
a peg to a mark on the top of another, the tape in catenary pull of 10 kg and at a mean
temperature of 70 oF. the top of peg was 0.25 metre below the top another . The top of higher
peg was 460 metres above M.S.L . Calculate the exact horizontal distance b/w to pegs if tape was
standard at 60oF and under a pull of (i) 8kg (ii) 12kg (iii) 10kg . R=6370, density of tape
7.86g/cm3, x sextion area= 0.08 sq cm , co-efficient of expansion = 610-6 per oF, youngs
modulus=2106kg/cm2
