POST LABORATORY QUESTIONS
1. The yield of an ester can be increased by
a. Its equilibrium, so to drive the product side, remove the water and the equilibrium
will drive to the right to make more ester. H 2SO4 is a good reagent to use for that.
b. Since it's an exothermic reaction in the forward (left to right) direction, cooling it
down would increase yield as the system drives to heat things up again.

2. If the oxygen atom in an alcohol is labeled as 18O, the water that is formed contains none
of the label because the 18O was not involved in the formation of the water but rather in
the formation of the ester.
