The theoretical pluralism describes the phenomena of different studies coming to
different results and suggests that even though some of them might be contradictory, they might all be true under certain restrictions, in special situations or in combination. CMC research examines assumptions, tests their mechanisms and then tries to make generalizations. An example for pluralism is the claim that CMC users would develop affinity over CMC and the second claim that interpersonal information is also transmitted online with the final agreement that good relations via CMC depend on attraction to the group identity and not due to interpersonal information.
