Assignment No. 1
1) Expectations in the course, weaknesses, and other things needed to be
clarified/discussed.
As a daily reader of newspapers, I find it difficult to understand some
terms and processes that tackle issues regarding the state and politics.
In taking up DS 126, I would like to see myself enlightened about the
ins-and-outs of the Philippine government, public administration, and
politics. As a UP student and a citizen wanting to be involved, it is only
appropriate for me to have enough knowledge about how things work
in our government. I also hope we discuss critical, pervading, and
interesting political issues present in our government.
I am looking forward to fun and lively discussions.
2) Possible particular issues related to OrCom.
Among the many topics related to OrCom, public relations seem to be
the most probable branch to be discussed in DS 126. Government
public relations can be taken as a way of the government to keep the
public informed about its activities, policies, and campaigns. I think
that learning the topics in DS 126 goes hand in hand with government
public relations.
3) How can DS 126 help you in your chosen field/career path?
Among the many career paths OrCom offers, public relations is where
my heart is. Any career in public relations would do for me, and since
both of my parents work for the government, I think that being a press
secretary (eventually, hopefully) does not sound so bad after all.
