READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
The story this week was called, Dear
Juno. The comprehension skill was
drawing conclusions or making
inferences based on clues in the
passage. We worked on using text
evidence to determine the answers
when the answers are not directly
stated.
In grammar, we learned about verbs
and how we choose the correct verb
ending based on the noun in the
sentence. If it is one noun that the
sentence is about, you add an s to the
end of the verb and vice versa for
plural nouns.
Students learned about parts of a
friendly letter. They learned a song to
memorize the 5 main parts heading,
greeting, body, closing, signature.
They practiced identifying these parts
with some flip booklet activities, and
they wrote a short letter to someone.
This week we also focused on the
importance of Martin Luther King Jr.
They watched a video depicting the
main events of his life, and then they
wrote about some dreams they have
to make the world a better place.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students learned about the differences between

maps and globes and did a flip booklet activity
to compare and contrast the two. They also did
sorting and identifying different landforms and
bodies of water. Remember, the landform
project is due on Monday.

MATH
We have finished up chapter 5 on double-digit
addition and subtraction. The test will next Tuesday.
This week, we focused heavily on word problems and
determining when to add or subtract. The hardest
lesson this week was on two-step problems. Please
go over that lesson in the homework pack (5.11), with
your child to practice for the up coming test.

SCIENCE

Students created a food chain

project. They put animals in order
and made a craft project featuring a
frog. We reviewed this week and had
a test on chapter 4 at the end of the
week.

Landform Project
Please remember that the edible
landforms and bodies of water project
is due on Monday. The best way to
bring it in is in a small aluminum tin
pan. If students cannot bring it on the
bus, you can drop it off in the
morning. Make sure to include 3
landforms and 2 bodies of water
labeled somehow. Everything should be
edible.
Reminders to Students/Parents
