Standard 2
Application and Integration of
Theory-based Knowledge
Competency 8.06
Recognizes the behavior patterns
of consumer population in relation
to multl-culturalism
Rationale
By familiarizing myself with the
behaviors associated with certain
ethnic and cultural affiliations
(including sexual orientation), I
can provide clients with culturally
competent care that will help me
treat them with the appropriate
degree of dignity and respect that
they deserve. I feel that I would
have been able to do this when
they state being satisfied by the
level of care they received.
I hope to achieve this goal by the
midterm of this semester.

community. I will also watch more videos about
how nurses can work towards cultural competency
through communication, assessment and
implementation of nursing actions.
In my weekly journaling, I will provide evidence of
self-reflection pertaining to dealing with clients
who are culturally diverse.

Theory-based Knowledge
Competency 8.09
Recognizes and Interprets the
manifestations of emotional and
physical states
Rationale
By identifying and correctly
assessing for mental health and
physical status as well as
indicators of concurrent disorders,
I can assist with prioritizing clients
greatest need on intake and on
follow-up checks. I would like to be
more knowledgeable about the
many ways that clients with
substance use problems present
with, and especially when they
have coexisting psychiatric issues.
I hope to participate in intake
assessment by the fourth week of
my practicum.

observe how case workers and nurses perform
assessments at clinical practicum, and to ask and
clarify for further understanding.
I will write down proofs of this competency in my
weekly journal and include my self-assessment on
what areas I can continue to improve on.
