Always keep your eyes

Quotes

Grace Coddington is a
former model and the
creative
director
of
American
Vogue
magazine. She was born
in 1941 on the small
island
of
North
Anglesey, Wales. She
grew up reading Vogue
magazine and dreaming
of far away places. This
is probably one of the
reasons why her work
today is so imbued with
the feeling of escape

Modeling career
When Grace Coddington first appeared
in Vogue she was described by one of
the photographers as a radiant girl,
with sparkling looks.
Unfortunately, just two years after
starting her modeling career, in 1961,
Grace got into a terrible car accident
that left her with head injuries and

damaged her eyelid. It took two years

for her to rehabilitate with the help of
plastic surgery. Grace was still
passionate about fashion and made her
move to working behind the pages after
being interviewed by editor-in-chief
Beatrix Miller at British Vogue and
accepted to work as a junior fashion
editor.

Style of work
While working as an art director for
British and American Vogue Grace
Coddington formed her own style of
work that could be described as very
artistic and innovative. World of
Grace is full of fantasies and to
shocking, loud editorials she prefers
to create allusions to books, theatre,
art and movies. Throughout her career
she worked with photographers such
as Barry Lategan, Arthur Elgort,
Willie Christie, Bruce Weber, Peter
Lindbergh, Irvin Penn, her mentor
Norman Parkinson, Patrick
Demarchelier, Annie Leibovitz and
5
many others.

The Grace of Grace

Currently Grace Coddington holds a position
of the creative director of American Vogue
magazine. She lives in the city of New York
with her partner Didier Malige and their four
cats. She has influence on various fashion
magazines and photographers worldwide. Her
Memoir, Grace, came out in November 2012.
It tells the story of her life, wide experience as
well as the life of the most influential fashion
magazine in the world. I personally admire
Grace for her passion for the magazine and
ability to remain the creative heart of the US
Vogue and at the age of 70 continue to find an
escape from reality in her magical
photoshoots.
