Basic Computer Skills Seminar

Objectives:
• To be able to inform the students with the parts of the computer.
• To be able to familiarize the students with the Desktop environment.
• To be able to inform the students the use and application of Microsoft Word.
• To be able to instruct the students in how to use the internet as a researching tool.
• To be able to create an email address for each students.

Rationale:
The computer is a very useful tool. Unfortunately, not all of the students are
exposed to this technology. This seminar will go through the basics in handling the
computer, starting from the computer’s parts to the desktop environment. MS Word is the
one of the most useful applications in a computer. This will help the students in their
present education and also in the future when they enter the University. The internet is
another offspring of the computer technology, which again is not catered to the students
in their school. Familiarizing the students with the use of the internet will reduce the
culture shock that they will encounter when they enter the University.

Details:
 The project is proposed to be held at the OSA Conference Room, on November
29, 2008, from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
 The target organization for this activity is ICON from the Faculty of Engineering.

 Parts of the computer
 The Desktop Environment
 MS Word
 The Internet
o Email creation.
