Introduction (Welcome/Guidelines)
I would like to thank you for coming to my conference today. My purpose for
this conference is to share with you how Ive been doing in all my classes. For
each class, we will look at samples of my work. I will also be commenting on my
effort and behavior in each class as well as goals I have set for myself. This
conference should last until _____________ p.m. If time permits, grades will be
presented at the end.*

Get a library card & read / talk together as a family

Read a variety of non-fiction literature on a variety of topics: newspaper, essays, magazines, speeches, etc.
When reading non-fiction, ask myself questions and do mini-research to find the answers
Ask questions in class when Im confused
Use context clues to figure out tough words
Make predictions as I read about whats next
Arrange to stay after school with my teacher for help
Read just right books as often as I can
